Summary:Alert Trekkers! If you are a Star Trek fan, particularly for “The Next Generation” (TNG) series, I think (hope) you will enjoy this novel.
You can expect a solid story from the TNG genre that follows the TNG universe; the same familiar cast of characters, and even bad guys. I did take some creative license, but did not stray from those guidelines set by Paramount. Of course, I am counting on you, fellow Trekker, to provide me with corrective feed back to make this more enjoyable for other fans.
The Battle to Save the Federation of Planets
Captain Picard and crew is given a relatively simple mission of escorting two aliens, Centrusians, from a recently discovered planetary system, back to their home planet to ratify a charter with the Federation of Planets that legalizes their entry into the Federation of Planets as full members. As the aliens board the Enterprise, Counselor Troi senses some undefined evil about the two Centrusians and warns Captain Picard. However, the two aliens prove to everyone, except Troi, their intentions are good and there is no evil (or is there?).
Enter the Romulans, who are also vying for an agreement with the Centrusians, because the Centrusians hold the key to the survival of the Federation of Planets, and the Romulans assisted by the Tal Shiar, know it—Picard does not. Troi continues to be besieged by something evil and no one else can corroborate her accusations nor understand her deterioration into near insanity. Picard must unravel Troi’s mystery, and is ultimately faced with saving the Federation of Planets from extinction at the hand of the Romulan Star Empire. The Centrusians are the key to the survival, but the battle to save the Federation is grim as Picard becomes embroiled with the Centrusians over an attack of their religion, alleged military action taken against them, and being charged with breaking the Prime Directive.
Please let me know if you think I know my stuff, if you enjoyed the story and think it is "original," and of course please lambaste me with feedback good or bad.

Summary:This is a very short (flash) piece I worked on in a writing class over the summer. I'm really not sure if it's a 'story' or a 'vignette' so I'd be interested in thoughts on that question as well as other general comments. Also is it too 'cutesy' to live?Chapters: |

***
I wrote this story purely on a lark, to escape "Client Relations," I suppose. I grew up loving Heinlein, Bradbury, Ellison, Asimov, Herbert... so I had a fun time with it. It's been submitted to 2 or 3 publications.
I'm posting it here: (i) to needle the most sexist men on this site (wait - who?); (ii) to see if anyone thinks it's as fun to read as it was for me to write; (iii) for suggestions on what publications might like it; and (iv) for feedback and comments, of course!!
But it's item (i) - oh yeah, I'm talking to YOU! - that inspired me to post it, right here, right now. : )Chapters: |

Summary:Machinery introduces the reader to an amazing scientific possibility through a rather... controversial (if not apocryphal) narrative. This installment is an introduction of sorts, hoping to spark your curiosity about both the science and the narrator.
I appreciate your most brutally honest feedback.

Summary:I have added the character Roselyn, Princess Evaughnlynn's cousin,
Any and all criticism gladly accepted. You won’t hurt my feelings.
Princess Evaughnlynn( E von lin) of Hawkland, a small northern kingdom on the island of Ellisland, was engaged at the age 3 to Prince Thrall of Anglia, an empire to the south. The story starts when she is twelve and is given a stone of power (basically a crystal that stores knowledge and amplifies psychic power). Stone bearers, or wizards, are usually middle aged and fall into three categories, dru, or healers, and priests, called wizards, and scholars, called sorcerers). Great evil is on the move and the Elf Lady Gwerydd foresees that as queen of Anglia, Evaughnlynn will be in a position to save Ellisland. She passes her the stone and dies.
The dark forces move against her. Fortunately, she has three allies, her cousin Roselyn, Phylon, a man-at-arms in her father’s forces and her cousin Beowyn, the son of her father’s Captain of the Guard.

 | Apostles of the Cloud | kevdarts | Short Story | Other | 10 | 2.56 | Jan 10, 2010 |
Summary:Two religious scientists discover a secret for curing drug addiction, and use a cloud to release it on Las Vegas. Big D, who runs the Vegas drug trade, is not amused by the drop in sales. The cloud takes on a life of its own, and the scientists and Big D must deal with the consequences as their lives come crashing together.
I have a thick skin and enjoy a thorough critique. Let me know if you enjoyed the story, and I appreciate any nits and suggestions for improvement.
Specifics:
-Do the biblical references come through? Are they too subtle? Too obvious?
-What about the comparisons and contrasts between addiction and religious fanatacism?
-Given that my main character is evil (Big D), how does he come across. Entertaining? Scary? Not scary enough?
Interesting trivia for your enjoyment:
-There really is a Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer in Vegas, and yes it does have the cloud picture.
-Vegas gets about 5" of rainfall a year on average.
-Microbes do live in the droplets of water in rainclouds, and some scientists believe their presence can effect when the clouds drop rain by altering the temperature at which the water in the clouds freezes.

Summary:Warning: this novel has at least four levels, is full of sex and violence, and is very fast paced. The Well of Women is at risk, as is the Tourney which Rhiannon wishes to use for pride and peace. But there are riots against offworlders, who the people blame for the rash of mother hate that is spreading through the land. And there is the mysterious Maelan--supposed guardian of the Well, whose malfunction may explain the evil that is afoot. Chapters: |
