Getting There is a story about two college graduates who drive to California to fulfill a life long dream, and hit many bumps along the way. within the first few days most of their money is stolen and they decide to offer two sisters a ride to California in exchange for help in gas money. A work of fiction, it is based on the life of Confederate General John Hunt Morgan and his abolitionist sweetheart, Lucy Vanderpohl. This is a novel I'm working on currently. I'm about eight chapters in- the first is fairly short. The other chapters are a bit longer (around 2500-3500 words each). My goal is 15 chapters, trying to average around 3750 per chapter to have a 300-ish page paperback novel. - My main characters are Anael and the transporter demon (Gaap) that the bar owner contacts for help at the end of the first chapter. It's romance, fantasy, and adventure all rolled into one - and takes place between Hell and Topside (the living world), with a little bit of Purgatory pulled in here and there. As for your feedback, anything constructive is welcome. The obvious things would be typos and any phrasing that feels awkward. Anything you'd like to see expanded in any chapter (descriptions, etc), or anything you feel is missing in images, tone or content, and comments on what you like about the scene or my style are all welcome. I've had this story written for a couple of years now but didn't have the beginning. This is the beginning. I'll be the first to say the science in loose at best and stays that way because neither of the main characters are scientists, and the whole thing's a metaphor, anyway. Here is a chapter from a larger work in progress. Originally written as a theatrical play, this story is inspired by actual events. I like to bring it out once a year or so and play with it... searching for an ending. Any feedback would be appreciated!

It got me thinking how computers capture our senses, attention and time...until they stop working so well, and we start looking at that hot new model that works so much better. I have done a few minor alterations/editing, I think it reads a little easier. Still some work to do though. Young man involved in horse breedng, works with his father who dies whilst out riding. Tale of how the young man buys a new stallion. Then it is stolen, recovered, he is threatened, and shot at. Until eventually he discovers who the horse is and why people want him. There is also romance in the air when he meets a young woman and falls in love.

It is in honour of all the women who kept the homefires burning (I think this is more of a Second World War term but it suits the subject). Not only did her husband manage to get himself detained at the request of the state of California for the murder of his business partner, he also managed to leave her and fourteen-year-old daughter, Amberly, destitute. Snubbed by the in-laws and their friends and unable to find employment in LA, Maya decides to pack up her sullen teenager and head back to her hometown and into her parents’ home. Returning home is the last thing she wants to do. Her mother, Diana Ventimiglia, was the prime reason why she left town. Her older, “good sheep�? perfect sister, Marta, was reason Number Two. Marta’s self-righteous attitude and the parading of her two perfect progeny, Max and Ben, is more than Maya can bear. Add to the mix the irritating next-door neighbor, Chad, former high school classmate, football star and perennial thorn in her side, and the recipe for disaster has just been rachetted up a notch.
