This is raw, a work in progress. I'm taking a risk here, going out of my comfort zone by putting up something that's not yet finished. I’m hoping you’ll see some growth from me in this. Sapphire Reign takes place almost 10 years after Kings & Queens. My mini-sum now: In a world where wickedness is exalted and an evil agenda is corrupting the young and innocent, a 26-year-old woman, trapped in the grip of agony, receives a glimmer of hope and battles heaven and hell to reclaim the happiness that's been stripped from her. ***Minor change. I originally had this about 10 years later, then switched it to 8. Now it's closer to 10 again. I forgot I had placed Majesty's sister Skye in high school. She's 15 in this story.

"When Two Trails Become One" has a western flair that takes place in 1972, with flashbacks to 1940, and mainly centers on Jessie and Clayton as they essentially find each other again after about three decades. A "loveless marriage" and a less than fulfilling "relationship" start Jessie looking back on her past, which begins to virtually overlap with the present. In numerous twists and turns, the story explores the complexities of human nature, highlighting qualities relating to identity, beliefs, and love in various forms. The story opens with Jessie feeling "annoyed that her seclusion is in danger of being interrupted by 'some city slicker' on horseback who wouldn't have the foggiest notion of how to find his way back down the mountain after dark." Her feelings about Jace Edwards, her live-in lover, take something of a turn, and saying "I'll be back in two weeks," she heads out for a ride up on Cry Baby Mountain to the cabin she and Clayton had discovered all those years ago. Over the last thirty-one years thoughts of Clayton had surfaced at random and usually at the most inconvenient times. Her father viewed Clayton as a 'worthless drifter' and had told Jessie she was never to lay eyes on him again, and Clayton felt Jessie didn't stand up for him. As the narrative moves back and forth in time marking certain experiences that may lead to a reunion of sorts, Jessie and Clayton strive to reconcile their individual motivations and responses. When she seemingly goes missing, a rescue team takes action and the sheriff commences an investigation into 'who attacked Jessie up on Cry Baby Mountain.' In the concluding pages of the story, the sheriff focuses a degree of attention toward Dakota Jay, a longtime friend of both Jessie and Clayton. A journal entry from Clayton furnishes some potentially unexpected information, and Jessie ponders whether or not, in her overzealous quest to find Clayton, maybe she had overlooked some important details. With elements of suspense and emotion, this offering is designed to capture the imgination as well as to provoke thought. The possibility of a sequel is left open with Jessie heading down "a dirt road with Clayton's blue hand-painted truck just ahead" and thinking to herself, "sometimes love isn't so much about what you give as it is what you don't give."

Also, the original Chapter 3 is now Chapter 2, while 4 is 3, and 2 has the 4 slot - all of which will effect the attached reviews. Does the shuffling help or hinder? Though it is basically true, the characters are composite and the time lines may be occasionally altered with some literary license thrown into the mix. The buildings were so blackened by grime you could barely see them in the dark—but we liked it. The subways were so dangerous you felt you were descending into Hell—and we liked it, we loved it, hallelujah!" This is a short story of almost 5000 words I am posting in two parts. I wrote it in 1994 and only recently corrected some of the grammar. I got the idea from the collapse of a walkway during a tea dance at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City in 1981. The collapse killed 114 persons and injured more than 200 in the giant ballroom.

As the story begins, the happy domestic life the Wades had embarked on at the conclusion to One Love in a Lifetime, had been disrupted. Angelina had been missing from her Los Angeles home for eight months and her husband has been desperately searching for her. A phone call from a doctor in New York reveals she has recently been admitted in a hospital there. Unfortunately, she has amnesia and remembers nothing about her past eight months or her earlier life with Sam and their two beautiful children. As her memories starts to return, the knowledge she regains about her kidnappers precipitates the couple into a dangerous cat and mouse game with Joseph Ross, who is waging a personal vendetta against Sam, having blamed him for the death of his brother, Stephen. The story follows the Wades through a series of encounters with Ross and his henchmen, culminating in a final confrontation in which the Wades ultimately triumph.

This short story was posted last year and then taken down from the site. I apologise to anyone who has read it before, I don't want to bore you! I have never submitted it a magazine or competition. Taking the advice of my good reviewers, I have edited it as the reviews have come in. I don't want to re-write and re-post again, it would try everyone's tolerance too far!

Ferdinand Marcoux is a seemingly unintelligent and uneducated man whose first visit to a brothel leads to an encounter with Jeff, a friendly but shrewd farm worker who uses Ferdinand's naivety as an opportunity to cash in. Jeff offers to take Ferdinand to Moussac, a small village in rural France, with the promise of a job working at a farm. The farm is own by Andre Bouvin, a violent, sexually deviant man. Andre enjoys humiliating his wife Giselle, and terrorizing his daughter Gabrielle, who the villagers called "the mute". Andre and Giselle have two sons, Maurice, the eldest, an introvert and weak man who yields to his father's humiliation and whose bored, pretty but dim-witted wife betrays him at every opportunity, and Gaston, the youngest son and the cruellest of all. For the villagers of Moussac, Ferdinand has no past and no future. Never have they seen a man with so little common sense! He is a passing comet that first generated suspicion and then greed, for he is a hard worker who never counts his wages. Ferdinand becomes Moussac's idiot, harmless and even entertaining at times. They could not be more wrong.

Even chapter jumpers are welcome if you comment on grammar, especially commas and verb tense, and whether the overall writing style hooks you. Also, if chapter jumpers could comment specifically on what I can do to make it more engaging, that would be greatly appreciated. Please note: You never find out the main character's name. Not until book three anyway.

This is a continuation of "A Touch of Seduction", currently available on the tNBW Publication page. If you have not read that story, please do so before reading this, as it is necessary for context. I intended to do this as a short story, but it is clear that it will run well over 5,000 words, so I am posting it as a novel. It will be more like a novella, unless the characters do something even more unexpected than they have so far.
