 | Requiem for the Nineteen Sixties. | Periscope | Novel | Memoir | 2 | n/a | Jul 9, 2008 |
Summary:A look back at life in the 1960s as a young man comes of age. The memoir includes reflections on himself, people he knew and the events of that time.
I would be looking for input about the writing style, wording and organization of each chapter. Also, did the reader enjoy reading the chapter and want to read more?

 | The Unintended Gift de Aire Fresco | Elli | Short Story | Memoir | 4 | 1.75 | Jun 13, 2008 |
Summary:A Latina woman receives a solicitation in the mail to support the Fresh Air Fund which evokes a childhood memory of coming to terms with racism. Does the story evolve too slowly? Do I overuse metaphor and cliche? Do the pronouns applied to the family in the story work? Chapters: |
 | RACE CARD | gem | Novel | Mystery and Crime | 6 | n/a | Apr 22, 2008 |
Summary:A small-town college community is turned upside down when an anthropologist on the national lecture circuit comes to town to dispel racial myths.
PLEASE NOTE, especially previous reviewers: Based on some recent workshop feedback, I decided to change the book's POV from first to limited third since Min is a more private person and her reluctance to talk about herself tended to estrange her from the reader. Would you let me know if it works better in third? Also the opening pages have been heavily edited since last posting. Since it's nearly a new chapter, I'm posting it and in fact the rest of the chapters as new ones rather than reposts. Thanks to all my earlier reviewers since I expect they'll disappear posting this as new content. I printed them out and filed them in a notebook.
Chapters 85-96 are the chapters written in first-person POV. No need to read those unless you are interesting in comparing the effectiveness of the new choice.Chapters: |

Summary:I've often politely requested of people to refrain from saying something in front of me that offended me. For this I've been called names, almost fired and nearly hit in the head with a hammer. Words can definitely hurt is a universal truth. Another universal truth is that hypocrisy sucks. This is dedicated to two men.Chapters: |
 | The Other Side of the River | MS Landess | Novel | Literary Fiction | 15 | n/a | Jun 9, 2006 |
Summary:The story of a young woman living in a racist town in an interracial relationship. I wrote this for NaNoWriMo 2004 and I've been revising it since then. I'm looking for some fresh perspectives on it. **Disclaimer** Some racist language appears in a few places throughout the novel. Consider the source. :-)Chapters: |
