This is a Wiccan poem I write about celebrating Samhain. Samhain happens around October 31st and is the third harvest festival in our wheel of the year. We honor our lord, which is symbolized by the Stag. I'm looking just for general opinions and how it flows.

This poem is written in mind with the children and the families who had to go through the terrible Newtown School shootings. I want to dedicate this to everyone going through emotional roller-coaster resulting from such tragedies. I would call my attempt a huge success if I can provide a moment of relief to at least one person going through such a tragedy . This work is from the novel, Corporate Samurai "love begets hate, trust begets betrayal, lust leads to death". It attempts to convey the emotions and thoughts, in song form, of a woman Samurai to the one true love of her life--who is also a Samurai. This song is written at a time when she suspects their relationship will not be sustainable, as her lover comes from a much inferior heritage than her own--something her family will not accept.

Hope is to get readers who hesitate reviewing poetry to take a leap in faith as there is no wrong way to review if you say how a work 'feels' 'provokes' or if it doesn't. Still good feedback and can help enrich one's own writing. Poetry is not my favorite genre. I don't even own a book of poetry except for my mothers. Only poetry I read in on this site. We are doing a walk next weekend in honor of our son, Brody, who died of SIDS, to raise money for Angel Eyes, formerly Colorado SIDS. I was asked to write a couple of paragraphs for a brouchure...I am no poet; I have absolutely no idea about meter, construct, where to place what. But this seemed to me to be suited to a poem of some kind, so I tried to break it down as such. Any and all comments are welcome. This is an abbreveated version of a story my grandfather used to tell many years ago. I just transcribed it into something resembling a poem. As most of you know, I am a HORRIBLE poet! Back in the 70s, I lived in San Antonio, Texas for about five years. I played lead guitar in a country band while I was there. I would see all these guys in their Stetson hats and Tony Lama boots trying to impress the ladies. My guess...you put any one of them on a horse and they'd crap all over themselves. I got to thinking abnout it and wondered when the last TRUE cowboy would eventually disappear. This is what I came up with. Any and all comments welcomed.

I originally wrote this as a song back in 2004. It is registered with BMI, my Performance Rights Organization, thus I have to include the original copyright information. I have slightly reformatted the verses/stanzas to fit a more traditional format for poetry. I originally wrote it for my recently deceased mother-in-law. Any comments you have are quite welcome. This is a very personal piece. Although it is written in first person, it is not about me, per se. But, the experiences and the emotions were taken form my personal experiences in Vietnam. I hope I have adequately conveyed the emotions I felt as I wrote this. This is my very first post. I very seldom write poetry. When I do, it is simple and straight forward. "Turning" is a quick and simplistic look at the various roles we play in the chapters of our lives. As our roles change, we must turn the page and start a new chapter. This started out as a lyric to a song. But, I found it better suited as a poem than as a lyric. For those of you who do not know, I am a songwriter and musician.
