Summary:I am not fanatic about anything. I am passionate about almost anything I enjoy very much. I am not a religious person, but I am a Christian who lived almost 50 years knowing all about God from books, classes, being in church and whatever. After that age I met God and got to know him on a first name basis and I do enjoy writing about my faith. It is not to offend you but to share my joy hope you will enjoy it too. Chapters: |

Summary:I decided to be brave and post the lyrics to a song I recently wrote. I know the timing is off and the words don’t always flow the way I’d like them to flow. But, I’m too close to it and can’t see what or where or how I can make the changes it needs to make it work. So, I’m hoping you can give me some ideas. All comments are welcome.
It is done in a ballad form. I hear Willie Nelson’s voice in my head when I sing it. Hopefully, that will give you an idea of the “sound” and flow I’m looking for. It is a story of theft and deception and then victory and redemption.

 | The Water Witch | farfinagle | Poetry | Fantasy | 9 | 1.74 | Sep 14, 2011 |
Summary:I've been reading and researching a couple of genres of writing lately - namely, American folk tales and ballad poems. Some of these have been quite interesting and entertaining. So, I started playing with both and came up with a whopper of a poem (a literal magnum opus!) that tells a story of a water witch who lived in the American midwest at the turn of the 20th century. The poem is narrated in the voice of one of the townsfolk, and tells the story of the water witch and of a terrible tornado that touches down near their town. As was common to the time, acts of nature and/or the unexplainable was attributed to God or other supernatural beings, and the story is perceived and interpreted as such. Sorry this summary is so long - I just wanted to explain the setting. ALSO - be forewarned! If you don't want to read a very LONG poem, this one's not for you! For more intrepid souls, your review and comments are very much appreciated.Chapters: |

Summary:I am looking for comments from the Christian community on this one. I have posted the story without the Christian slant for anyone outside the Christian community. Any and all comments are appreciated. Also, I'd like to enter this into a contest. Does anyone know of any contests that would be appropriate for this story? I am also looking for an agent and/or publisher. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much! RadleyChapters: |
 | The Valley of the Dry Bones | radley | Novel | Young Adult | 5 | n/a | May 6, 2011 |
Summary:This is a story about some teenagers who head out on a camping trip over the weekend. They run into some other teens who they know from school and, together, they come upon the 'Valley of the Dry Bones' that one of them's dad had warned them about. This is a story of adventure, young love, teenage discovery, redemption, and salvation.
This is my first writing, so let me have it! :) But, please be gentle, it is sort of my baby and has some meaning behind it. One thing I know, in particular, that I need help on is that I've never written fiction, so I'm not sure if the way I've done the dialogue is correct. Also, I know the language is a little stilted in places, but I wasn't sure how to shore it up. So, I am giving you my virgin draft and I will appreciate your thoughts, ideas, corrections, and advice. Thank you - RadleyChapters: |

To all of the poetry experts, any suggestions for cleaning it up would be much appreciated. Thanks!Chapters: |
 | Why God? Edited January 27, 2009 | Dur Shacho | Poetry | Religion and Spirituality | 1 | 1.91 | Dec 26, 2010 |
Summary:This work is an attempt to explore the emotions and questions that arise from human tragedy. It raises the questions, but not the answers. While the questions raised are specific to a situation, similar questions are eventually asked by all. //God is defined in the broadest sense--and I hope it causes thoughtful introspection only. There is also a bit of "Eastern Philosophy" in this, as we are all affected by our experiences--and I spent 19 years in Japan and four of my seven children were born there.// A thought to consider; mustn't God loves us all?(regardless of our specific religion, or lack thereof). This is the first in a the first in a series of poems designed to provoke thought. Chapters: |

 | The People | farfinagle | Short Story | Science Fiction | 3 | 1.12 | Sep 21, 2010 |
Summary:In ancient times, the Greeks and Romans interpreted and explained natural events through mythological stories.
My short story is about a clan of individuals who call themselves The People. The main character (Eli) and his cohorts have been told by their holy men that the end of the world is coming, and they are preparing for it. During this time, The People are visited by strangers who come down from the heavens in a space craft. Events in the story are interpreted and explained by Eli within the context of his society's mythological beliefs.
This story was meant to encourage the reader to think about traits we consider uniquely human. Some examples: being set apart as a favored people, being ruled by supernatural entities, being seen as inherently fallible and deserving punishment. It is also about humanity's dark side, which includes perpetrating violence against others who are not part of an accepted group.Chapters: |

Summary:I have edited this piece to include some helpful comments from reviewers. This is solely my opinion. I do not pretend to be an expert in religions. I do however have some experience in teaching CCD and in raising seven children. My hope is that this work may cause reflection and discussion. Assuming one accepts God exists, then there can only be one.Chapters: |
 | Dark Prairies | R.S. Guthrie | Novel | Commercial Fiction | 2 | n/a | Jun 7, 2010 |
Summary: The war over Wyoming land rights did not begin with the lynching of Jim Averell and “Cattle? Kate Watson in 1889, nor did it end with the Butch and Sundance-style execution of Nate Champion outside his KC Ranch cabin in 1892. Those whose generations have lived in the Cowboy State know that land counts for much and family can be a secondary thing.
When Sheriff John Pruett’s wife of 44 years is murdered by her own brother in the whirlwind of a family feud over precious mineral rights in the gas boom of the 2000’s, he will face not only a test of professional mettle, but also a formidable reconciliation with both his faith and his own flesh and blood—Pruett will ultimately battle his child, his town, his ghosts, and his God. This is a tale of twisted, hardscrabble greed set against the majesty of one of the last, true American paradises.Chapters: |

 | God Asks Us, Why? edited 10/02/2009 | Dur Shacho | Poetry | Poetry | 3 | 1.11 | Oct 7, 2009 |
Summary:This work is a response to "Why God?". A poem in which a young widow, with a child who's husband was killed in Iraq, challenges God and bares her soul. It is important to read "Why God?" first, to put this response into context. By no means does the author attempt any more than consolidating answers throughout history to mankind's tragedies. | Death-The End or The Beginning? Edited February 19, 2009. | Dur Shacho | Poetry | Religion and Spirituality | 3 | 1.57 | Feb 11, 2008 |
Summary:This piece is presented solely to encourage thought. The questions asked-I suspect, have been asked since the emergence of conscience, thinking mankind. Obviously there are no definitive answers to these questions. However, as death is truly the only inevitable, universal experience that all creation experiences, perhaps it's worth asking these and many other questions. If nothing else realizing that your questions are shared is of value, isn't it? At least that is the motivation that prompted this poem. It is the last in a series of five poems that started with 'Why God?' Chapters: |
