![]() | Healing in Sandahl | k_s_talyn | Short Story | Fantasy | 1 | 0.00 | Mar 14, 2010 |
Summary:This is an addition to Lee's anthology "A Visitor to Sandahl". Still very rough, please point out places I can tighten up or describe more. It's a very mellow story, no earth-shattering disasters, or terrible cruelties, just a small decision that changes one man's life. Ann and Karen, hope you don't mind my liberties with your stories. Tell me if I got the details wrong.Chapters:

Summary:In the First Age a gifted race, the Felwarn, were created to guard mankind from the evil god of that world. Over the ages the Felwarn withdrew from humanity and eventually became distant legends from an ancient world. Now, in the Fifth Age, a new generation of Felwarn are leaving their safe homeland to take the traditional road of initiation. Felwarn law decrees they must keep their identity and powers hidden from humans. ......... Please Note: I love all my reviews and I take them seriously. As you go you might notice my *Flaws*; too many unnecessary words/adjectives/adverbs. You can point that out if you like. :) But I am working on that. I welcome all types of feedback, and wherever. And I look forward to reviewing your work in return. .......... NOTE: Chapter numbers have changed. Chapter 1 is now the prologue, and so forth. The prologue is now a stand alone chapter/story. If you have comments about this please share them. Because I'm still not sure it is the right thing to do. Thank you for reading Chapters:
![]() | STATIC MAYHEM 2 | Sherman_Bierce | Novel | Fantasy | 3 | n/a | Feb 21, 2010 |
Summary:This is the sequel to Static Mayhem. It's been on the back burner for some time now, but I recently unearthed the few sketches I have for it, and I think it may be time to start fleshing it out. So far, I'm just calling it Static Mayhem 2, although my notes have the working title Mayhospheres. Since the original title for Static Mayhem was "Big Yellow Taxi", I don't have the best faith in my ability to name things, so I'm going to leave this approximately untitled for the time being. For those of you who read the first book, this story takes place eight years later, and focuses on the children (some adopted, some biological) of some of the characters from it. New readers are welcome, but should be aware that this may not carry as a stand alone story. I guess we'll find out. Chapters:
![]() | Prelude, Gill | Hale | Short Story | Fantasy | 4 | 0.77 | Feb 13, 2010 |
Summary:This story is set in the world of Eden, inside the universe of Requiem (which is the brainchild and creation of a friend of mine). The Venerated Republic is in a state of collapse following the expansion of a terrible sickness known as the Torment and the evil machinations of a daemon-worshiping cult the Resolve. Gill is a small fish in a small pond who gets mixed up with the wrong crew and after a brush with death gets swept into a pond far too large for a fish that small. I'd like feedback in the form of grammar fixes, continuity, ideas on how to expand the story, and so on. I forced this story out to get myself moving forward and so this is a brand new idea in its infant stages. I hope you enjoy!Chapters:

Summary:Dear Gentle Reader, there is, indeed, more to life than meets the eye of the casual observer. I wrote The Last Call when the time of All Souls Day, Halloween to most believers, was upon us; a time when a tale of other worldly dread seemed appropriate. Horror can be more than a bacchanal of blood and gore, the aftermath of blade and chainsaw, fang and claw. Horror can also simmer, sight unseen, unknown to the world at large - except for the unfortunate few.Chapters:

Rhiannon is more complicated, Rosalyn has a different status, it is in 3rd person. It has themes of transformation, the loss and reclamation of important things (although they are not what the characters or readers think at first). A word on its setting: this is not set in medieval Europe. It takes place on a world that is about 11th century in terms of its social and technological development, but is 30 lightyears away from Earth, which is occupied by a world (Terra) with 21st century development. It takes place in our future, but in that world's (worlds') past. One culture is corrupted by Terran society, others are not. Oddities like the characters using slang from the US c. 2009 is thus explained. It is the tale of the fall and rise of Rhiannon, the ever so great descendent of the lengendary woman/goddess of the same name. All feedback is appreciated. Thank you.Chapters:

Summary:Imagine yourself young, independent, successful; then suddenly swept through time into a future where nothing resembles the past except the granite mountains. You’re plus some unusual senses and appendages and you’ve got nothing of your previous life but a few precious memories, some ill preserved fruits and meager survival gear. And, you’re pregnant. It can’t be anything but a bad dream—a nightmare you’ll wake up from. But you don’t. Ridiculous? Impossible? Well, that is exactly what happens to Katherine Paine in my new novel, Monarch UV3000, when a "mistake" in a genetic research lab inoculates her with a UV serum derived from the cell material of a Monarch butterfly. Like other subjects, Katherine is encased in a chrysalis and emerges in a high cave above the San Joaquin valley, time unmarked accept that the valley is a vast inland sea. Preceded by the others, Katherine arrives among the Dannais, a closely knit tribe of future citizens, to find that she has been identified as the heroine of the society's most pervasive myth. I hope you will enjoy Monarch. I'm looking for feedback on the structure and storyline of this work.Chapters:

Summary:In this era where science fiction is becoming science fact, technology is mixing with strongly held myths, and art is blending the chaos to shine a light on the rapid changes, we will either destroy ourselves or else learn to live in peace, without and within. This is the story of a particularly gifted young psychic, Aurora Swift, and the psychiatrist who tries to unravel her worlds, and in doing so unintentionally comes into contact with interconnected universal mysteries, dimensions, ancient beings and civilizations. Mixture of fantasy and reality genres. Mainly, the two settings are the modern day present with a bit of government conspiracy, and a sort of underworld that Aurora calls the Night World she escapes into to keep her sanity intact what with the pressures of her life. We meet a lot of other psychics in Aurora's circle and travel all over the U.S. and the world in search of some type of salvation. ** The first six or so chapters are non-linear and deliberately jarring as Aurora is experiencing a crossover of dimensions and times that will be sorted out in later chapters.// If I were to summarize the emotional stew or message of the story, it might go something like this: It is easy to wonder if our lives are worthless and actions are pointless because all will be forgotten one day. If every inventor, thinker, artist, intuitive being, and scientist followed through with this line of thinking, we’d still be in the Dark Ages or perhaps cause a new one. In this time of flourishing light, we need not allow the darkness of short-sightedness envelop us. The power is within us to make this world whatever we want it to be and become. And yes, one can make a difference with a little help from her friends.// **NOTE: I am on this site for constructive criticism. If you believe my work is only worthy of a 1 or 2 and feel like writing a snide scathing review or telling me how to write according to you, go somewhere else. My work isn't perfect, but I what I don't need is people who wish to feel superior by cutting me down or taking out their bad day on me. If you "don't get it" either ask me why something is written as it is or read something else. That I've had to explain this is sad, but there are plenty of A-holes in the world and that is reflected by similar percentages on this site. For those of you here to learn and grow and offer positive suggestions: Welcome. ---- (4/23/09 Currently reposted Chapter 1-3 and more coming soon for fans old and new).Chapters:

![]() | STATIC MAYHEM | Sherman_Bierce | Novel | Other | 18 | n/a | Aug 18, 2006 |
Summary:11/05/09Reposted by request. The current status of Static Mayhem is that I have yet to find an agent to represent it. I haven't given up on it, but I am currently focusing my energy on my next novel, Caprice. I am still happy to take critique on either book. Meanwhile, I have started posting the beginning of a sequel to Static Mayhem. I hope to get the bulk of a first draft written this year, but Caprice took me six years to write, so I don't know how realistic that is. We'll see. ***** Two forces drive Harrison Cody to trek from New England to Chicago on foot: a bewildering pixie named Glimmer, and Claudia, the voice on the radio who may be the only other human still alive. Static Mayhem, a mainstream novel that weaves elements of Fairy Tale, Science Fiction and Horror into a contemporary setting, tells his story. Harrison's journey reveals a North America whose human population has been replaced by dinosaurs, demons and dragons, and whose infrastructure has been reduced to a smattering of buildings holding artifacts from Earth's past and future. For all the surreal obstacles of his environment, his greatest challenge proves to be the care of two young survivors, separately orphaned and in clear need of a parent. Their eventual arrival in Chicago is punctuated by his arrest, and after clearing himself and establishing a life in this new cradle of civilization, he finds that his unanswered questions pale in importance to his new family. Only one group of heros, the Magician Aaron, the halfling Walley Highspirt, the Paladin Thomas Grey, the dwarf Maximilian, and the dark elf Anastazja hold to key to stopping Demos before the world is engulfed in darkness.Chapters:

Summary:Danny Marx is abruptly torn from his unpromising life as an average office grunt, by a woman he's had a crush on for weeks before actually meeting her. Now facing a series of unexpected and confusing threats, he finds that the more he learns about Caprice, the less sense she makes to him. This book is a bit of an experiment for me on several levels, not the least of which is to find out whether I am capable of writing a short novel. NOTE TO POTENTIAL REVIEWERS: As with any novel, the point of entry should be chapter one. With Caprice in particular, if you jump in anywhere else, you will almost certainly miss the entire point of the story. That danger will increase exponentially as I add more chapters. The kind of feedback I need more than anything else is about plot and character development, so latecomer reviews, while well-intentioned, won't be of value. Please start from the beginning. ![]() | "Fall and Rise of Rhiannon of New Fairy" | rhiannon | Novel | Fantasy | 26 | n/a | Dec 20, 2005 |
Summary:Rhiannon, prodigal daughter of the king of New Fairy, has suffered a terrible curse. Having humiliated a witch, she must suffer a unique shame--she must go naked, regardless of the weather or social situation. These are the stories of how she reclaims her dignity and fights the evil of men, and her own inner conflicts. Many of these are more light hearted than Rhiannon's Ordeal, and show Rhiannon in the heroic capacity that emerged in her post-curse life. Rhiannon's relationship with Rosalyn is more ambiguous--at least to Rhiannon; I don't think the reader was ever fooled. There are other differences, but I don't think that should matter to the reader. Rhiannon's still her dear, sweet, naked self.Chapters:
