 | Jerusalem Light | Sara Basrai | Novel | Literary Fiction | 3 | n/a | Feb 10, 2012 |
Summary:A woman's journeys through the Middle East following the end of a relationship. A meditation on love, sex, journeys and finding your way out of the desert. Experimental in places. Conventional, too. I've added a touch of exposition, but a kibbutz is a communal way of living (largely agricultural) practiced in Israel circa the 1920s. The kibbutz movement has changed a lot since its inception. Chapters: |

Summary:One of the hardest things in life for me has been learning that I must choose who I have in my life in order to improve my life experience. It can be very painful lesson when applied to the people to whom we are indebted for an upbringing.
Regardless of what they may be like as human beings, its a tough call to free yourself from abuse, or pain when it involves letting go of someone who was present in your life as a child, or even as an adult. Blood relation or not, separating yourself from someone who mistreats you can be the hardest bond to break, emotionally, socially, or ethically.
This piece explores the painful realities of a parental relationship that required a severing of bonds to recover from.
Tell me what you think, and forgive me if its rather harsh, The struggle to survive that home was challenging, and it took years for me to release the person in question. This piece is about ten years old, but I pulled it out, reworked it, and now here it is for your consideration.Chapters: |
 | Bus Spotters | caseyg | Novel | Mystery and Crime | 3 | n/a | Nov 21, 2011 |
Summary:Some time ago I posted a short story titled "The Bus Spotter." I am trying to extend this into a novel. This is the first two chapters, but I think it might be better as chapter 1. I'd like opinions. Also I am not sure whether to include the first section which briefly describes the relationship between the MC and his missing father. Also of course, did it hold your interest?
Explanatory notes:
DI: Detective Inspector similar to US Detective Lieutenant.
DCI: Detective Chief inspector, similar to US Detective Captain.

 | The Narcissist | dagnee | Novel | Commercial Fiction | 19 | n/a | Oct 29, 2011 |
Summary:This is an evolving work, the chapters are disjointed and I think it's pretty much a mess right now. I want readers to know this is more of an outline of what the finish product will be. When I get to shaping that outline into something intelligible is anyone's guess. Thanks for reading. Story summary: This is a story of a woman who found her idea of a perfect man in two abusive relationships. She goes from denial to realization to resolution in one week. It isn't pretty. Anything you can suggest to make it flow better and make sense I will appreciate. dags:) Chapters: |

 | A January Rose | Unbar | Novel | Young Adult | 7 | n/a | Jun 3, 2011 |
Summary:Rose Schneider's quiet world is shattered one summer day when a friend rapes her. Discovering she is pregnant, Rose runs away to Chicago in an attempt to escape her small-town fate. A story of love and pain, set in the 1980's, it combines romance, drama, suspense, faith....all the stuff I love to read about myself!
I'd love to get feedback on my voice, since it is in first person. The main character is 17 when the story starts, but is retelling it from an adult perspective. I'd like the book to appeal to young adults as well as adults. Descriptive words of your take on the "feel" of this novel would be much appreciated, ie., boring, mysterious, exciting, whatever....tell me what you really think while still being polite. Also, I reciprocate reviews for those who review my work. Thanks and enjoy!

 | Amongst Ghosts | Keen | Novel | Literary Fiction | 4 | n/a | Feb 14, 2011 |
Summary:Very briefly, Amongst Ghosts is a novel about twin sisters who have too close a relationship. This suffocates each of them and ultimately becomes a destructive force. I currently have an agent interested in the book but she says I have to show what has motivated the young women to behave the way they do. So I've just written this chapter which would precede anything else in the book to try and show the defining incident that colours their future behaviours and decisions. I would really appreciate whether the voice is too old for a nearly-thirteen year old, bearing in mind she is the Victorian daughter of a country reverend. And is there anything I can do to generally improve the chapter? Lots of thanks in advance and bear in mind that the spelling is UK English. Cheers, KeenChapters: |
 | Egg: Version 2 | Keen | Short Story | Literary Fiction | 5 | 1.35 | Jan 13, 2011 |
Summary:I posted this some time ago but it was then written in third person perspective. I've experimented by rewriting it in first person narrative as I'd like to enter it for a competition and they favour first person. I would value any feedback that will help improve it, or whether you simply enjoyed it as it is. A big thanks in advance, KeenChapters: |

Summary:
I write a lot about trees. I identify so much of my life with trees and memories. They were my haven and still are. They are magic ... They have been honored and they have been defiled
My tribute to trees. I would imagine most on this site have their own memories both good and perhaps bad. Willow switches hurt like hell! Favorite means of punishment on me but I never blamed the TREE... My Tree!
As always ... any feedback is greatly appreciatedChapters: |

Will Anna survive her encounters with the malevolent being? Or will she, too, flee in abject terror?
NOTE: I am new to writing and appreciate any suggestions on nits/flow/characterization, etc.

Summary:Billy Cooper had a secret never to be told.
In Britain and Ireland a widespread traditional rhyme records the myth that seeing magpies predicts the future, depending on how many are seen.
This short story is a modern day spin on an old version of that rhyme that I discovered for the first time. It won runner up prize in the 2008 www.YouReadOnline.com site and was subsequently printed in the short story compendium called "A Thousand Trembling Leaves and other short stories"Chapters: |
 | Sapphire Reign | amarie | Novel | Commercial Fiction | 7 | n/a | Apr 18, 2008 |
Summary:THIS IS A SEQUEL. This is also raw, a work in progress. I'm taking a risk here, going out of my comfort zone by putting up something that's not yet finished. I’m hoping you’ll see some growth from me in this. Sapphire Reign takes place almost 10 years after Kings & Queens. I’d appreciate reviews from readers, who've read my first book, since they can (hopefully) see what I’m doing differently and if it’s working, but anyone is welcome to read this. However, since it is a sequel, spoilers abound. So only proceed if you have no intention of reading Book 1.
In a world where wickedness is exalted and even children know the sting of suffering, Majesty is trapped in anguish five months after her young daughter's death in a preschool gas explosion. When she receives a bizarre glimmer of hope that her little girl may still be alive, she fights heaven and hell to reclaim the happiness that's been stripped from her. But with so many enemies, maybe someone is determined to make Majesty pay. Or maybe her daughter really is gone forever.
