Summary:This is an autobiographical account of the effects of childhood sexual abuse on an adult survivor. The story is raw, and some details may be disturbing, but they are necessary. I normally do not write autobio pieces, so this story is very personal for me. I want feedback. I want to know how it makes the reader feels. My goal is for the reader to develop some understanding of the pain that abuse inflicts on the victim decades after the attack. I intentionally kept the story narrowly focused. It is purposely short and direct to make an emotional impact. It's impossible to examine the all the effects of such a crime on one's spirit, family, career, faith, and outlook of life. The story is not meant to be uplifting or inspirational. It's simply an account of a tragedy, and an unexpected consequence I've experienced.Chapters: |

 | If I had Only Known;Breaking The Silence Of Caregiver Abuse | Brooke Jennings | Novel | Non-Fiction | 2 | n/a | Oct 19, 2007 |
Summary:This book is a non-fiction work, and discusses corporate America's role in the quality of care patients receive in nursing homes, group homes and institutions. The novel is based on true events. Due to the graffic details and personal stories about patient abuse, reader discretion is advised. I am interested in viewer feedback regarding the books informative features, and if it would make you pay closer attention to who you might choose to care for your parents or grandparents if they became bedridden.I would also like to know what emotions it evokes in you,ie; anger, sadness,(writer or patient)or if it makes anyone interested enough to do something about the abuse of these patients?Perhaps thinking of creating advocacy groups, changing laws, writing to government officials etc. Thank you for your interest!

 | Poor White Trash | kbobwall | Novel | Memoir | 4 | n/a | Aug 3, 2007 |
Summary: I've written about my life growing up in poverty in the small town of Brighton, Illinois during the 1970's. My
book has been compared to Dave Pelzer's "A Child Called It"
because we were also reared in an abusive atmosphere where
our mother suffered from depression and obesity, but, instead of being an alcoholic, she was a prophetess. God
wanted us to go through garbage dumpsters for food and to
eventually move to a remote location in Missouri where we
lived in a cave for four years.
My childhood started out normal with love and respect from two working parents, but it was short-lived because Mom and Dad separated when I was four. Dad didn't pay child support and Mom no longer worked. We lived in cluttered, filthy, hoarding conditions. By the time I was
twenty years old, I was six feet three inches tall and
weighed one hundred and thirty pounds; I was homeless,
depressed, and suffered everyday from headaches to severe
migraines and vomiting.
I lived through a unique experience that has given me
a personal glimpse into the lifestyle and mindset of our
nation's poorest people. Billions of people in the world
live below the poverty level and nearly nineteen million
people in the U.S. suffer from a depressive illness. It's
been a long emotional journey for me to write forty-five
chapters that begin with my first visits with a mental
health counselor and then chronicles the first twenty years
of my life. I was educated in the Illinois public school
system through the ninth grade when I was pulled from school so we could live a better life for God without the
influence of our sinful society.
I love my parents, but they are the strangest people I
have ever met. I didn't write my memoir out of hate or
revenge. I began writing after a counselor suggested it to
relieve stress.Chapters: |
