| Bio: | Well, I do not lay claim to being a writer just that I write. I’ve written stories of one sort or another since I was a kid; mostly centered on horror and SF. I have never liked slasher stuff or stereotypical monsters and goblins –I’ve found ample evidence of the real things lurking in the shadows of my own life and the world at large to want to read or write about vampires and werewolves. Likewise, my science fiction must be grounded firmly on terra-firma (i.e., character drama) to make me believe it is real and plausible “science” fiction. I prefer to read and write fiction that is grounded in the loose sand of reality, as it seems stranger to me than any fiction….I’ve never had the luxury of devoting myself in any meaningful measure to the craft (those of you that graciously subject yourselves to looking at my stuff will surely come to that same conclusion), but have always wanted to become a good -if not great writer. My writing activities have come in the form of erratic, and sometimes, manic episodes of starts and stops. I’ve been the victim of creative writing classes that have sent me whimpering home with my pride tucked smartly between my legs. I’ve tried the online writer’s critique thing before, and found myself rather than being inspired, encouraged, and better for my efforts, to have been subjected to the unbridled arrogance of other aspiring writers (unwilling themselves to admit that their work sucks about as much as mine), and willing to “flame” someone else in order to puff up their own egos….I took a lot of time and looked this site over as carefully as I could before deciding that I would risk that sort of thing again. This site seems …different. The crits I’ve looked at seem, thoughtful and above all, CONSTRUCTIVE….I’m not a prolific amateur as far as posting completed works goes (hell, I think if I could actually craft a story in my head –start to finish, I might be able to actually write a good one once in a while and finish it), so I don’t expect to develop “a following”, but I do hope to grow as a writer here. Hopefully, in time, I’ll gain enough experience to actually lay claim to that moniker, “Writer”. I look forward to getting to know some of you…..~L.Fleming…..48…..Married…..Daddy to one (OMG is she 18 already?)…..Small business owner (Commercial Purveyor of Death)…..Tyler, Texas….PS: I am wanting to start an online circle of writers that want to work on pieces of writing in a more personal (or private) setting than the forums allow for.
