Tips for Posting Your Work

Posting work on the site is divided into two steps:

Step 1: Upload your work
Step 2: Publish your work.

Step 1: Upload Your Writing

There are two different ways you can upload your work to the site:

Option 1: For work written and saved in Microsoft Word:
Writers whose original document is in Microsoft Word can use a Word utility to upload their document with most of the formatting intact. To use this utility:

1. Open your Word document and cut and paste the work that you would like to post. On Word you do this by highlighting the relevant section and and then pressing the Ctrl-V keys simultaneously.
2. Toggle to TheNextBigWriter submit screen. Once there, click the W icon shown in the image below. Your writing will load into the window.
3. Click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page to complete the upload.

Option 2: Upload Your Document as a Text File:
Another easy approach to upload your document is to first save it as a text file, provide some simple formatting, and then cut and paste the document onto the site. To do this:

1. Cut and Past your document into a text editor like Wordpad – On Windows machine this can be found in Start/Accessories
2. Separate each paragraph in the document with a line space.
3. Cut the resulting document and then paste it into the text box.
4. Click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page to complete the upload.

Step 2: Publish Your Writing

Your work is now uploaded but not yet published to the site. To publish your work, follow the instructions you receive after you have submitted the work. Or, you may publish it at any later time by:

Login to your account
2. Click on the Your Account tab located on the top right of the page
3. Find the novel/short story/poem you want to publish
4. Click the “Publish” link
5. Check the boxes of the sections you wish to publish
6. Click the ‘PUBLISHED SELECTED ITEMS button at the bottom of the page.

Your work will become visible on the site and be ready to start receiving reviews.

Formatting a Poem

The site automatically formats line breaks as a double space. To create a single space after line breaks, go to the end of each line and press Shift-Enter simultaneously.

Editing Your Writing

You may edit your work at anytime via the Your Account tab. Through this tab, you can change the title, change the description, and edit the body of your work.

To change the Title, Story Type, Genre, Rating, or Summary:

Go to Your Account located on the top right of the page
2. Click on the Title of your writing
3. Click the Edit: Main Story Information
4. Edit the appropriate information and click submit

To change the Chapter Information for Novels or the Body of a Short Story or Poem

1. Go to Your Account
2. Click on the Title of your writing
3. Click Chapter/Title
4. Edit the appropriate information and click submit
