If you like classics and tales of the supernatural ...
I have to say Nathaniel Hawthorne's "House of the Seven Gables." I crabbed about writing a paper on it in another post (LOL) but I was very surprised at the rich detail and characterization in this one. I'm taking an entire doctorate-level literature class on nothing but Hawthorne and Poe. Poor me! LOL. But H7G is the best classic I've read so far, and the best I've read in a while.
Cheers!

I haven't read Hawthorne, but I LOVE Poe. Which is surprising, really, 'cause I'm not a fan of anything dark and creepy. In fact, I'm gonna name my next puppy Poe.

Mags -- that's really cool! My thesis was: "The house itself is a character and serves as a supernatural vortex of memory." My prof loved it. Check out my LJ later! I was really surprised how much I ended up liking this book. The only works of Hawthorne's I've ever been forced into reading before are The Scarlet Letter, of course, and a bunch of strange short stories.
Hugs!

Sounds really cool! The book is definitely a character. I know you were dreading that paper, but I'm glad it worked out so well. Maggie

Hate to break it to ya, guardioops....but Nathaniel Hawthorne isn't a member of this site. Hasn't been for awhile now. He was skeered of me. ![]()

Re: If you like classics and tales of the supernatural ...
Nathaniel Hawthorne is dead....he died in 1864. I was just teasing you about him being on the site. Sorry. Unless I'm mistaken, none of the stories mentioned in this thread are stories that are on this site. They're all from books.
As for supernatural reading: Try out H.P. Lovecraft - he's one of the best.
