First Paying Spoken Word Performance

I was ask by a friend of my neighbor(I donated my services for her birthday) to do a spoken word performance at her Hawaiian Party(interesting concept) Saturday June the 18th. I showed up at approx. 11:30 p.m. I notice there was some entertainment for the ladies; which postponed me a bit. There was probably over 150 people there; outside and inside the dwelling. What I  notice is there were people I knew from my early childhood. One thing that almost spoiled the set was that the microphone wasn't functioning, and certain influences kept some people from cooperating(hmmm). That didn't stop me from doing my poem "Hate Me Now/Love Me Not" in the middle of the backyard(yes, I caught many people's attention; and the influenced smile )

Hey good for you! So how was it received? How'd you feel - get a rush from being up there?

It just seems like I was born to do it(no speech or acting lessons whatsoever; all in spirit). Most notice, some appreciate it, and have was under the influence...It went well(I shout it out smile )

There is nothing worse than getting up to speak in public only to have your voice pack it's bags and leave you standing there all alone.

Re: First Paying Spoken Word Performance

Thanks, I appreciate it. I use to have that same feeling, because I couldn't speak well majority of my life, and certainly not the confidence to do it in public(among peers, school, family, etc.). Just a few months ago I just gain the spirit to do this, and have been like a natural at it. yikes

I've spoken in front of several different types of audiences on several different topics.  After the first one, it becomes an addiction.  Looking into the crowd and seeing that your words have all their eyes and ears focused on you.  Making them laugh, or squeezing a tear from their eye, and hearing them thank you afterwords.  Careful Moses, its an addiction too.  smile  I'm very glad it went well for you.

Bless your heart for those kind words. It you feel it deep within your soul, it comes out effortlessly. yikes smile big_smile
