Hope that since the government is back cranking away that all your checks are showing up on time.

I didn't miss a paycheck, but they sure had me scared for a while there. I'll see
what we can do about an illustration for your story, but not certain.

Hey, Lee:  I took a look at the blurb, and it looks good. Thanks for the heads-up.

I talked with a member of their design team, Whitney Parks. She and I went over different
aspects and I selected specific items. Then she put those in my cart and charged it all to
a credit card I have on file with them for other book purchases. Here's her contact info:

Both of my previous publications, Cable Hornman:The Bard Begins and

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

Oh Unbar, I forgot to mention, make sure your manuscript is done before
you purchase a publishing contract. Unless they have changed their policy,
you have to use it within a year. I know that sounds like a lot of time but
if the MS has to go through a lot of changes before you submit it.....
Plus all interior illustrations must be submitted at the same time as the MS
so they can accurately format the interior.

If you want I can email you their content questionnaire so you get an
idea of how it all starts.

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

Waaw! I think I'm gonna cry. Just finished the design consultation on
Return to Sandahl and asked if we could get it out before the holidays.
The lady at Createspace said she didn't think it was possible. It'll take
three weeks from now just to set up the interior. Waaw! Bummer, I had
high hopes of getting it done by the end of the season.

Not the writers fault, you all did a great job.

Next year I'll need to set the deadlines a little earlier.

Your self-imposed deadlines aren't a concern.  You're the one doing all the work, picking the cover, dealing with the publisher.  All I did was sit at my keyboard and type.  Thanks for daring to come up with the project and making it into reality!

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

Here's an update from the publishing house: 11/20/13
Quoted from their site message center post to me -------------
Thank you for completing the editorial questionnaire for "Return to Sandahl." We'll be sending your manuscript to an evaluator today, and we wanted to let you know what the Editorial Evaluation service entails.

An Editorial Evaluation is an assessment by a professional editor of your manuscript's strengths and weaknesses, which offers feedback and advice to help you determine your next publishing step. An editor will read your manuscript from start to finish, giving careful consideration to its overall success and effectiveness. Evaluators consider the big picture in terms of plot/main idea flow and the overall structure of the manuscript, and they also look at genre-specific aspects like dialogue or characterization, in addition to general feedback on grammar and style.

For a more in-depth look at the Editorial Evaluation service, please reference our "What to Expect" document, which can be accessed by clicking on the Editorial Evaluation service in your account.

CreateSpace evaluators adhere to "The Chicago Manual of Style," 16th ed., for capitalization, punctuation, and grammar issues and "Merriam-Webster Unabridged" for spelling and hyphenation when providing feedback regarding style, grammar, dialogue, and similar topics. -----end quote.

---------------------------------------------------------
I asked if the evaluator could break down the comments by specific story and writer,
but won't know until I get it back. If they do, I will send individual emails to the
appropriate writer on their feedback for your story rather than post them for all to see.

I don't know how many of you folow the Chicago Manual of Style or the MW Unabridged
Dictionary but thought you would like to know what most editors use as their guideline.

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

An update as of 12/12/13

Received an email from createspace that the second round of cover proof was ready to
view. (The first one they had changed the color of the title from red in the concept to
white and shrunk the font size down.) I asked them to fix it.
I was completely shocked at how they had screwed up again. This proof had two words
misspelled. Methanasia in the subtitle and Troubadour in the series title. I am still
trembling from dealing with the cover design department. I sent in two emails and
insisted someone call me tomorrow. Their policy says I have to pay for additional
changes
I wonder does this apply to their typos? I went to a lot of trouble to
create a cover concept. All they had to do was add Cable's sword and mandolin icon
and copy pretty much what I did. Now we've gone through two proofs and they've still
not got it right. (Can you tell I'm furious?) This is also causing unnecessary delays.
I am beginning to have strong reservations about using createspace for any future projects.

Not cool.

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

I am really sorry you had to go through this. Although I'm not up on everything up in this post, I would like to offer...

Expert Subjects - http://www.expertsubjects.com/

You know, for the next time.

Heather UpChurch was my designer. I told her what I wanted and she sent me no less than 2 dozen proofs, until I was satisfied. Can't sing their praises enough.

Thanks Jeanie, I've used createspace for my previous two books and it wasn't a major problem.
It's almost like I'm working with an entirely different publisher this time.

I went to your link and saved that to my favorites. I might give expertsubjects a try next time.

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

Update 01/13/14
I received the interior proof around Dec 30th and I found numerous errors
in it. Most of these were extra or missing spaces between words and several cases where
a letter was dropped off the end of a word. After much frustration, I called Createspace
and discussed this with them. I was upset because these errors were not in the original
MS I uploaded. The lady there and I viewed the several MS on file for the project and
discovered the mistakes showed up in the MS's after the editorial evaluation. They are
going back to the original MS and re-formatting the interior to (hopefully) eliminate all
the errors. She said that would take 3-4 days. Then they will have an interior proof MS
for me to download and proofread.

Will keep all of you posted.

Lee

This qualifies as my first time being published!  Does that make me a real author?  Who wants my autograph?

Yes amy, once the book is published you are a published author. But don't get too
big of a head, this is after all a self publication I'm doing through a POD (Print On Demand)
company. The Sci-fi and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) does not recognize publication by
a POD to qualify for membership.
But on the other hand, here on TNBW you join that list of published writers. You can also
refer to your story in the book as "Other works by this author" in any future endeavors.

Last but not least, it brings a smile to my face every time I break out a new writer. Thanks
for your contribution.

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

It's one thing that you are writing and getting your own material into print.  It is another that you've set yourself up as a Svengali and collect talents like feathers in a cap.  I think it's darn cool that I could be in the same book as someone famous someday.  Hey everybody...start writing!

Re: Return to Sandahl Anthology needs writers

But you do know Svengali was depicted as evil, don't you? Strange you should make
that comparison, because I have been referred to as a "mastermind type" by other
folks I worked with in the government before I retired and took up writing.
