About TheNextBigWriter's Brown Bag Lunch

Hello and welcome!

We’re pleased to announce the launch of a new program on TheNextBigWriter that will help to answer some of the questions you have on the art and business of writing.  As part of TheNextBigWriter’s Brown Bag Lunch Series, we’ll be bringing published writers, agents, publishers, lawyers, and more onto the site to answer the questions that you pose.  The goal of the program is to demystify the publishing process, introduce you to others who have gotten published or can help you get published, and answer those questions you’ve been wondering about.

How Does it Work?

Depending on availability, we’ll be inviting guests to take your questions about their area of expertise and adding them to questions from the site's editors.  We’ll announce each guest on the site and the forum and then make a call for questions.  We’ll compile the questions, send them to the Brown Bag Lunch Guest and then post the responses.  In some cases, we hope to have guests come on and post answers in real-time and maybe even do a chat session.

Can Anyone Participate?

Anyone can ask a question.  But if there are too many questions to be answered by the guest, priority will be given to members of TheNextBigWriter.

You can also participate by emailing us the types of guests you’d like to see along with any specific names.  We’ll do our best to contact them and invite them to be a Brown Bag Lunch Guest.

I'd love to hear from Jane Langton; each time I find a new book of hers at the library I'm newly thrilled.  From her wonderful class at Radcliffe Institute, I know she can answer most questions,  demystify the process of mystery writing.    Opsimath

Steven King does a lot of endorsing of things some people might think beneath him. Asking him to pop on might not be as much of a long-shot as might be expected.

The convoluted wording of legalisms grew up around the necessity to hide from ourselves the violence we intend toward each other. Elaborate euphemisms may conceal your intent to kill, but behind any use of power over another the ultimate assumption remains: "I feed on your energy."

I'd LOVE to get Stephen King.  I first need to find out how to reach him.  If anyone has a contact, let me know.

Opsimath, I'll look into Jane Langton.

I few other Brown Bags planned and hope to release some info soon.

How about Dean Koontz? His info is on the back of all his novels, perhaps it is worth a try to get a hold of him?

I both love and hate Koontz.

You have to admire a man who turns out a novel like "Dark Rivers of the Heart" or "Intensity" and then turns around, digs in his closet and publishes anything he finds in there.

Really, does anyone believe 'Your Heart Belongs to Me" was written in the last fifteen years? Not without three percocets.   But was the book published within the last two years? Yes.

A pot boiler. It was dreadful.

Although I really liked Dark Rivers of the Heart.

And Koontz has a bad habit of using the same plot devices over and over.

Still, I like his happy endings and his ordinary guy doing extraordinary things.

It's a trade off.  I wonder if one could really get him here.  Who knows.

Re: About TheNextBigWriter's Brown Bag Lunch

Anne Rice sometimes posts on amazon, and seems very approachable. Recently she started a thread called something like, "Should a major author publish first via ebook?" Raised a whole lot of debate, some of it actually on point.

I think her email address is on her profile.

Hi Paolito

Good!  I will contact Anne Rice. This morning I am meeting with our local printer and then I'll compare their quote with create-space, who I am very pleased with. However, lets face it! Every penny counts. IT will be a busy couple of months but I am so pleased to finally get to this point.  Irene

Looks like this is an old thread but if you're serious about revising the Brown Bag Lunch, Sol, Stephen King wrote in his memoir on writing to drop him a line at www.stephenking.com
