Moby's Dick, by Jeni Decker

The title sounds like the book could be obscene, and it starts off kinda crazy/flash-fiction-y.  I admit, I'm so straight-laced that I almost skipped it because of the title - How's that for an embarrassing admission?? yikes roll  smile

To those who don't usually go for what they THINK is "this sort of thing," especially by - gasp!- a WOMAN! yikes, get ready for a wild wild ride.  It's not at all what it seems...

Jeni Decker has crafted a terrific WIP.  I just finished chapter 6 and, quite honestly, I've never read anything quite like it.  smile  smile  smile

If you're a Hamler fan, you'll love it.  If you're a JEliz fan, you'll love it. If you love everything outside or in between, you'll love it. Even f you don't know what you like, you'll love it.  Just stick with it.  It's well worth the time.  smile

PS: I'm feelin' pretty lucky right now.  Between Jeni's book, QXT's incredibly engaging Dragon Wranglers, Kydd's fabulous noir Queer Murder, TCat's speedo lightnin' fast Trailer Girls, and Rory's gothic-y Love Bites -- TNBW has some impressive new works online. I recommend each one!!!  smile  smile  smile

Hmmm... Sounds like this might be your first exposure to Jeni Decker, GP. She's been a figure of substantial notoriety 'round these parts for many a year. I doubt her earlier novels are still posted in this lowly theatre, but yeah... She's a playa who crush a lot. smile

Wait... You consider yourself strait-laced? News to me. smile

Sorry. I've been wasting time on the internet lately, just floating around aimlessly, looking to spout on something... You've reminded me that I need to finish Client Relations... Giddy-up!

John, when it comes to dealing with you, no one can be straight-laced unless they're moribund.  Or from Tacoma.  yikes  smile

And yes, this is my first exposure to Jeni, who just knocked the gajonkahs out of the remnants of my cerebral cortex after I read ch 6 of Moby....

Hey, GP, isn't it great when you come across a great story and a gifted storyteller to boot. Or maybe that should be 'and a clever writer, to boot.'
Thanks to the likes of Jeni Decker, I read far more stories here than anywhere else. If this workshop ever institutes a Hall of Fame, Jeni Decker's smiling face will be shining down on us, with a devilish smirk, I hope.

Go Tacoma! I could have been born in Tacoma;) (little mix-up at the hospital)

Hambone, you're so full of shit! Ha! Which is why I loves ya! You're as "notoriously substantial" as I am round these parts. wink I just have a prettier ass. LOL

I took everything else down a while back - what a cluttered mess! Just ole' Moby up there now.

Sorry, I had to "fell" Hamler before I thanked you PROFUSELY for your kind words.

From your reviews of Moby's Dick, I'd never have taken you for straightl-laced. You've been very accepting of Moby's obscene craziness and your reviews have been insightful. I really appreciate them.

I've told most of you guys in review responses, but this is supposed to be an absurdist tragi-comedy so it's not all funny, in fact gets very depressing at times. I'm wondering if this is something Moby should mention up front, since he all but mentioned everything but his shoe size... wink

Hey, thanks again for your recommend and continued support!

Jeni wink

Perhaps if you called it the "Hell of Fame" it would be a go... wink

Nathan, you're sweet - and someone who has read almost everything I've written, which I thank you for. Plus I read your memoir, it seems like eons ago, so having gotten to know you on that level, I'll just say that you're very dear to me, Mister. wink

Jeni, are you under the influence of Flann O'Brien by any chance? Just wondering.

HAHAHAHAAHA  I'm still trying to get through that one, Nadine. It's funny, but I know I'm missing a lot of funny stuff simply because of my lack of knowledge of the era, as well works that he's sending up in the book.  Still, I'm enjoying it. I'm just reading it slowly... between other things. When I'm feeling focused. wink

GP, I've got a hit out on you for mentioning this one - I currently don't have time to read a recipe before I turn on the oven, but you've now got me HOOKED, Jeni!

I've only got one word to say about this one: FARKINGBRILLIANT!

Gotta run - Moby's calling me. wink

Cheers,
Yvonne

Well my goodness! I'm happy to be getting you all excited! Gotta go over and attend to my reviews - it was grocery shopping day and I'm late getting to work. wink

Thanks again - what a huge compliment. wink
