Hey Ms T. that link you tried to enter didn't work.  I think. There's a red x at the left anyway.  Excuse me for a minute while I shake up some wings and have a sip of something cold.  You can watch but I may recruit you for a few little prep chores.  The rewards will be plentious.

Back to the drawing board... But I can see it--and so can Harvey. I'll surmise there's something amiss with your computer. smile

How's about a Superbowl poem? or ditty (did he?).

Do you know that Superbowl Sunday is the biggest eating day, next to Thanksgiving?

I'll load the bong!

Re: The Late Night Social Club

So here's an admission.  Although I prepared and enjoyed with family and friends a Super Bowl meal, I didn't see a single moment of the game, nor any ads and not even the intrepid oldster, Madonna.  I did check the score on the internet a couple times.  Am I culturally deprived?  Un-American?  Or just a dull guy?

Re: The Late Night Social Club

Dang it! Dang it! Dang it!

I recorded the stupid game and it was just after 10pm when a friend, who is not a football fan called and before I say more than "Hello" she hollers The Giants Won!!

ARG!!

It was a good close game too! Not a close out like a normal game.

ARG! I say!

Re: The Late Night Social Club

Two and a half men, meet The River.

Dear God.

Things I learned: Don't draw the blanket down from a lump in the bed. It might be a blue-headed monster/alien/whateverthefuck. Notice how the 'blue meanie' is rendered helpless while under a blanket, but if someone comes along to pull it off, all of a sudden he can rip everything to shreds. Damn the power of the blanket. Oh, and try not to set up camp where there are thousands of freaky dolls hanging from trees. Because sure enough, if you take back your teddy bear, you won't be able to get it back onto the tree without the help of Martha Stewart. I won't even go into the dope who cast the son as looking older than his mother.

I've never watched anything so bad that kept me laughing throughout. Mystery Science Theatre worthy.

Always watch out for the rock, boss... lest you disappear in two feet of water. And reappear in another two feet of water, in practically dry clothes. I could go on...

What? You have stitches from the big gash in your leg? Let's go into some parasitic water. You can watch me repair the boat.

Well tell me what you think if you ever get around to watching it, j. smile

jb, you are too funny!!!!!! I must say, your 5th reviewer has an interesting take on "vows" that would have Betty Friedan rolling in her grave. I'm thinking of something good to say about you--but it always ends up being an epic novel that needs cutting down to 600 pages.

The River sounds like my kind of show.  But if it's on TV I won't see it.  Maybe when the DVD comes out.

Yeah that reviewer is living somewhere south of the 1970's.  But it proves that there is a partner for everyone.  In general the reviews for that poem were very kind.  And Betty Friedan sure was a homely gal.  (Sorry, that was inappropriate)

So, today is Thursday.  Time for some reading, some avoiding of politics, some grocery shopping and maybe a little bit o' beer later in the day.  Lunch will be light - broth and a crust of bread in honor of Mr. Dickens.  Dinner will be somewhere elegant - Applebee's or Texas Roadhouse perhaps.  Celebrating Valentine's day before the rush.  Plus I can use a senior discount on Thursday.

Write you authors, write.

Re: The Late Night Social Club

I had a gathering of some friends last night and I made chocolate lava cakes. OMG were they good, and easier than any other recipe I had found. I want to post it here in case you guys ever consider adding it to the menu. I stole it from a cooking show, so as a writer, I had to give credit where credit was due...

****************************************************************************

Chocolate Lava Cake
(From “Chucks Day Off† TV show on the Cooking Channel)

Makes 4 servings

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Butter four ramekins and coat with sugar

½ Cup Butter
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate
3 eggs - room temperature
1/3 C sugar
2 Tbls flour

Melt butter and chocolate over medium heat
In a large bowl, *whisk eggs and sugar together until pale yellow and “ribbon-y† (4-5 minutes).
Add ½ of the chocolate mixture into the eggs and combine. Add second ½ and combine. Add flour, mix well.

Pour into prepared ramekins 3/4 full. May be refrigerated until needed.

Bake at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven. Allow to set for 5 more. May be put in refrigerator for a quicker cool down. Cake can be inverted onto plate or served in ramekin. Add scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!

*I have a bad wrist, so I used my whisk attachment on my mixer and it worked fine.

*****************************************************************************

Re: The Late Night Social Club

As that annoying cooking and product endorsement young lady with the really big smile would say - "Yummo!" - to your cake.  It'll send my butt into sugar shock but I'm on it.  As soon as somebody tells me why they call those little corrugated sided bowl thingies - ramekins.  And don't make up some lame shit about it being from the French or something.

Did I mention that my oldest grandson won the spelling bee at his middle school yesterday?  Had to spell ramekin to win.  On to the state tourney for him.

We used to call my father's mother Grammer.  But we were supposed to be saying Gran Mere with the little accent thing somewhere in there.  I may have French blood but no language skills.

I just gave my youngest son my bomber jacket--I bought it at an antique shop for $500 20 years ago. It has a map of Korea for the lining and all kinds of original patches. We just watched Top Gun! I'll regret it in the morning.

Re: The Late Night Social Club

So, while the place is so quiet, I'll slip back here and start a pot of coffee. My book is done and re-writes are underway (fourth incarnation) and I still hate the opening chapter.

I am so intimidated over the query process. I'm afraid I've reached  a point of hiding in my first novel's re-writes instead of grabbing the bull by the horns and sending out the letters so I can start accumulating rejections. *sigh* Que self-pity party music.

Congrats to your grandson on the spelling bee. Ramekin! Whadda co-ink-ee-dink-y!

Phun with foniks rox!

BTW~I have no clue how they got that stupid name. Small bowl works for me.

You better get started on that rejection pile; I understand Steinbeck had a stack a foot and a half high before he was accepted. Shoot I'm almost there, mine's about a foot tall now, oh so close. One thing about those queries, don't burn all your bridges at once by mass mailing to every agent/publisher listed in some directory. You'll probably end up revising that query more than your novel and you can't resend to the same ones and expect better results; they pretty much frown and toss those follow up ones or so I'm told and expect to be true. Of course you might hit the lottery on that first one too. Good luck. Take care. Vern

Re: The Late Night Social Club

jlmo, I understand your fears.  In fact anyone who has submitted something somewhere knows what you're going through.  But you've got a good book and it deserves to get out there.  And as rejections come along we'll be here to sympathize.  Or laugh wickedly, whichever you prefer.

Ms. T I had a bomber jacket that my dad wore in WWII when he flew B24 bombers in the South Pacific.  I gave it to my youngest brother many years ago.  He sold it to get money for weed.  But he's grown up and out of that now, and I don't hate him for selling the jacket.  However I've never forgiven him for selling the Gibson arch top guitar that he stole from me.  Well, I guess I have, mostly.  He had an expensive habit.  Maybe there's a poem in all that.

Today is Friday and I'm going to go to the Social Security office and wrangle about stupid medicare sign-up.  Tried their phone system to solve a problem and that's impossible.  Got a survey a couple days ago from the gummint asking how satisfied I was with SS services people.  They don't have enough paper for me to vent my dissatisfaction.  One extra beer for breakfast then off I go.

Have a fine day.  By the way, Vern, good advice up there.
