I'm pleased to announce the 2010 Strongest Start Novel Finalists. They are:

Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror

- The Temple of Huo Shan by a._p. hubbard

Just an observation.  There is no working link for "a._p. hubbard".  And no other listing for any other name under "hubbard"  The book is there, but the author is not.

The lantern revealed a symbol of an eye with long, wavy lashes like tentacles, painted white and deeply engraved into the stone.  A breeze lifted her hair as Shadyia glanced down the ancient passage.
“What’s down there?” she asked.(Chapter 9)

Re: Strongest Start Finalists

I've also noticed that ap and other writers are without a working link.  I wonder if writers need to update their link somehow.  Maybe they've changed their name but not their link name?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for trying to check my profile. Yeah, I don't have one. Don't know why, exactly. A glitch in the system, I guess. If you do a search from the splash on "a._p. hubbard" all my stuff will come up.

If anyone's profile doesn't show up, I just assume they're "ghost writers" lol. Take care. Vern

Patience. No one knows, except perhaps Sol. I think it depends on the judges.

Re: Strongest Start Finalists

I think one of the contest pages might have mentioned the finalist being announced July 31, 2011.

Re: Strongest Start Finalists

The contest rules state that first round finalists would be announced APPROXIMATELY 4 weeks (that would be a week ago) after the deadline, and that the winners would be announced by the end of July.  Seems doubtful either will occur.  My first novel languished for 2 1/2 years at TOR before they rejected it; it took TSR 2 weeks to buy it afterward.  Such is the world of publishing

I know this is last years list, but it would be great if the named novels were live links to the work itself. There a some that sound interesting.

Re: Strongest Start Finalists

Tammy, you should just contact the author(s) and ask.  You never know why it was disabled.  Maybe they disabled it for some reason or maybe it was published. Never hurts to ask. big_smile

Re: Strongest Start Finalists

Tammy, I might be able to help you. "The Poppy Field" is still being workshopped on here. The author, The Coffee Lady, has changed its title to "The Missionary's Wife." (I highly recommend this one.) "Priscilla the Great" was last year's winner, so it's been disabled on the site and is available for purchase on Amazon (and elsewhere, I'm assuming.) "The Dark Angel" is still up here, too. I'm not familiar with the other titles so I have no suggestions there, but often works are disabled on here when they're published/going to be published. (Copyright stuff and all that.)

Can't wait to find out this year's finalists! big_smile

It's too bad Sol can't change the thread title to Strongest Start Finalists 2010.  I think it's really confusing people here.

Re: Strongest Start Finalists

I know. Which is astounding to me since last year's winner is listed among the finalists and it SAYS "2010" in the body of the post, at least. Sigh. I wish people would stop responding to this because every time I see it I think, "This year's finalists are finally up!" Except I'm only contributing to the problem now... I'll stop. lol

The first post in the thread identifies it as 2010. The thread was dormant for almost a year until brought back up several days ago. Perhaps threads which are inactive for a specified time should go to a special oldies but goodies section or have an alert which signals it is an old thread not a current one just in case someone didn't realize before popping it back to the forefront and people start deja vu all over again, lol. Probably asking too much. Take care. Vern
