I saw this, but when I was querying last year she didn't seem right for Songbird and then I took Janie into revisions. May try her once I'm ready to query again.

I've never understood "women's fiction." wtf does that mean?

Well what I think it means?  LOLOLOL

Basically women's fiction about women for women.  Anything from Jennifer Weiner's Anyone But You to Bridgette's JOnes Diary.  Most of the time you can also sell it under the genre.  But if they buy women's fiction, they'll buy stuff like the Bum Magnet or maybe even my Plum.

But some define it as more literary women's fiction like books on women finding themselves (Eat, Pray, Love) or things like Feminine Mystique.

Always check the agent's definition but it's an area best defined by the agent requesting it. smile

^ OHHHH okay. so basically chick lit. For some reason I was under the impression that women's fiction and "chick lit" were two different things. Gotcha! I wonder if "Shaved" counts. Dyke lit.

Women's lit and chick lit are so broad range it really depends on the rep. Some people consider women's lit more serious than chick lit. Some consider them the same.

I say see what they already rep and see how close it is to what you do.

I thought women's fiction was something like 'The Bell Jar' and chick lit was anything by Danielle Steele sorry spelling....

Re: Polish your YA, crime fiction, women's fic and sci fi---a lit agent

Some do consider women's lit to be the things like the Feminist Mystique and so on.  Some show no real difference between women's lit and chick lit.  That's why it's always best to look at what that particular agent has published in women's lit to get an idea of how THEY define it.

smile  Because it's the agent's definition that matters.
