Re: Good luck to all the contestants
Aeons. Holding of breath is not advised.
Allow six weeks before finalists are announced. Another three on top of that before winners are announced. Sometimes it's a little quicker than that, but mid-July for finalists and end of July for winners announcement is typical.
Edit: I should add that I think that's actually pretty quick.

Re: Good luck to all the contestants
My guesstimate of well over 200 entries (that includes a feeble attempt at culling the duplicates in different categories) may add an additional Eon to Ven's estimate - and to his sound advice, I might add to practice the virtues of Patience and Fortitude.
Best of luck to one and all
Write well and prosper,

I think not. If you entered, you're only a contestant. As far as I know, there is no winner yet. But damnit, I have watched everyone work their ass off and really hone their chapters to fine points, but they're still just contestants, until there is a winner. ![]()
Good luck to everyone.

Sharon, I see you and I entered the 'two least likely to succeed' in the humor category!
I read the first chapter of all the humor entries today while I waited in the parking lot for the boys to get out of school. Aurora still makes me laugh. That's one offbeat story, but damnit if I don't find it funny as hell. ![]()

Those numbers are likely to change. You can only enter one category + the main. Sol should be able to come up with the final numbers, once the dust settles. ![]()

Not so, there is more than one definition of a "winner" and you do not always have to "win" a contest to be a winner.
Definition of WINNER
: one that wins: as a : one that is successful especially through praiseworthy ability and hard work
I believe anyone who has "successfully" completed the three chapters and entered has demostrated "praiseworthy ability and hard work." Just my opinion of course, others may disagree. Take care. Vern

Oh, no... well if they are new members, maybe they were confused. Hopefully Sol will let them switch their tags so that they only have one genre and the other in the main category. It can be confusing when you're first starting out.

Yes so.
There is only one definition of WINNER in a competition, and it is not: One who is successful through praiseworthy ability and hard work. Which makes me laugh every time I read it. In your world maybe...and anyone under 5 years of age you might be able to sell it to. End the contest immediately! We ALL won!
In the real world (and also in mine), when you enter a contest, you are a contestant or entrant. You are not a winner, unless of course you win, at which point the other entrants will become losers. You cannot both win and lose at the same time, in the same event. Unless, of course, you win for losing.
So you see, vern: You will either be a winner or a loser, unless you are a finalist, in which case you are still a loser, and not The Winner.
Some facts are black and white, and cannot be open for interpretation.

I guess there is something to be said about the size of the dictionary being used. As I said, there is more than one definition for "winner" and you most certainly can use more than one for a contest. You can lose a contest and still be a winner according to the definition given. I did not use the definition which required you to be picked by the judges as their "winner."
And again, you may disagree, but you can't change the definition of "winner" given in the dictionary so that everyone must abide by the narrow one and only one "winner" you see. I never said you "win the contest", only that "if you entered, you are already a winner" by the definition given. That is black and white, like it or not.
You of course are free to consider yourself a loser by your singular definition should you not "win" the contest by one definition only. You are perfectly free to consider only one definition for yourself, but you can't assign your singular definition to anyone else who might consider more than one definition. That's the real world. Take care. Vern

You're a funny guy, vern, and I like you, but given my competitive nature, you'd be the last guy I'd pick when choosing teams. ![]()
Besides, I'm strictly talking about winners. Winners in contests! Contests are for competing. You don't win by entering, unless it's some self-fulfilling little feel-good bestowed upon oneself for.... If a winner isn't chosen then what's the point of entering? Don't answer that!!~! We'll never agree.
Good luck!
