Tracking changes in word
I've been tracking changes in word and would now like to turn it off. Can't seem to find how. The changes remain in red. I could go through each one and accept but I would prefer to do that globally. Is that possible?

Re: Tracking changes in word
I haven't tracked changes in a while, but I just fiddled with mine (Windows 7) and I clicked the button to "Track Changes." The button became highlighted. When I clicked the same button again, it became unhighlighted.
I don't recall, specifically, what the setup was like in Vista, but I can only guess it was pretty much the same.

Re: Tracking changes in word
What I do is 1. go to the right on the toolbar that says 'accept changes', click it, and hit 'accept all changes in document'. 2. Next, go left to 'Final showing markup', hit the arrow, hit 'final'. 3. click 'Track Changes', scroll down to 'track changes', click it, and it's done.
Hope it helps!

Re: Tracking changes in word
Thanks Ceridwen. No 2 is the one that did it. I couldn't find the option to accept all changes but I found the way it worked for me was.
to click back and forth on final showing markup /final. Or even original showing markup/original.
No, searched my toolbars and there it is, next to previous and next. Accept all changes.
This will save me a lot of time.
Thank you very much.

Re: Tracking changes in word
Now that I have the hang of tracking (and I love it) - how do I turn the markup view off permanently on a document. I do it over and over again and it won't hold. I need to email the documents but it is emailing with tracking. In the end I copied the page and pasted into another doc. but that isn't a solution.
Help..

Okay, when you click 'Track Changes' on the tool bar, there'll be a box of prompts under it. One is 'track changes'. Click it, and it should turn off.

If you want to send a file you've used the Track Changes function to edit, open the Review tab while the file in question is open. You will find a section Changes. In the Changes section, you have the option to Accept or Reject the changes you've made. One of the options under Accept is to Accept all Changes in Document. By clicking this option you will create a clean copy that removes all the red lining, deletions, additions colors, etc. from the document.
After I've accepted all changes, I always click SAVE AS (NOT Save!!!)and give the file a name that is pertinent to what I'm about to do with the file. In your case you want to email it to Someone.
I'd name mine Great Story to Someone 012111.doc. This puts the document on which I tracked the changes in my folder with the Track Changes function still active (just in case I want to open that file up again and see where I started and where I ended up before I sent it to Someone).
Accepting all changes (and then saving it as a new name), in essence, creates a new file with your changes accepted. I don't know if there's any going back from Accepting all changes UNLESS you follow the SAVE AS routine I've just walked through. I've never been willing to risk it.
People who are adept with MSWord probably can give you a more efficient way of protecting your paper trail of editing and being able to create an "unmarked up" file.
