Docking stars - huh?

If you dock a star or two, please be so kind as to explain why.  That's why we're here - right?  - to improve our writing.  If you give a 5, that's wonderful - you have been pleased.  But if you see an area for improvement, and therefore dock a star, I believe you owe it to the writer to explain why.  There are reviews that praise the work - superb, powerful, etc., but the work gets a 4.  I find that juuuuuuuust a bit frustrating, people!  Explain please.  Thank you.  Bye bye.  Susan.

Re: Docking stars - huh?

I agree with you, on both levels- as the writer AND the reviewer.  If you tell me my review was really helpful, but only give me a four, PLEASE explain why.  I'd like to know, so I can get better.

Re: Docking stars - huh?

I know it's been done to death but I want to have a gripe for gripe's sake.

I spend a good 15 minutes reading a piece and another 15-20 minutes writing a 500 word review that I feel provides useful advice and positive suggestions. I give the author 3 stars.

The 4 star - "Thanks for your review." type reply really pisses me off. I don't care about the stars, what I care about is that I seemingly wasted my time creating the review when I could have dedicated it to a writer who would appreciate it for what it is.

At least let me know what more you would have wanted to hear from me that made my 500 word considered opinion less than helpful.

It's Friday andI feel like swearing.

"Arse!"

There. All better now.

Carry on.
