Reading disabled chapters

Don't do it.

A lot of us have come across the + button by accident, but realize real quick what it's for, and what it does, especially when 7 Chapter 2s pull up. If the author wants those chapters disabled, honor their wish and review only from what they have posted on their main page. So, I go by the honor system with the + button. Using the + button is like getting into someone's filing system without permission.

Re: Reading disabled chapters

Sharon..... I hate a post with no replies lol  I have never even noticed the + sign so haven't accessed disabled work.  But my curiosity has been awakened as to why anyone would even bother when time is so limited for reviewing in the first place?

Re: Reading disabled chapters

Mainly people review disabled chapters because they aren't aware they have been disabled, because the access from the Read/Review page (as Sol recommends), where all chapters, disabled or not, are clickable. They don't (generally) do it on purpose. And sometimes, even when aware of the defect in the site, they do it in genuine error (ie confused as to which edition of a chapter is most current)

I do urge other authors to resist encroachments on their brain-children and trust their own judgment rather than that of some zealous meddler with a diploma in creative punctuation who is just dying to get into the act - George MacDonald Fraser (author of 24 international bestsellers)

The fact that 2 or 3 chapters of the same are present, should be a clue, but... not everyone looks, true. No, I don't think readers purposely go lurking around in writer's disabled chapters. Hah. But even on read and review, clicking on the 'novel title' takes the reader to all 'available' chapters. If Sol doesn't want to fix it, there should be a note in red in the read and review page. I was once unaware of it, others are, too. It should be known. So, here I make it known. smile

Re: Reading disabled chapters

Yeah, it should have been fixed long ago.

Mind you, there being no clue as to what the little + box is for on the Read and Review page probably does help make this problem rarer than it might be. But I'm not convinced that's an intentional feature...
