(Also added your story to the list of Sandahl WIPs thread and the LEE!! thread.)
Very good piece Jeanne. I like Thom's Journey and
will download this first part to do an edit. Send me your email
so I can send you back the edited doc when I get it done.
Great working with you. I also posted a hasty review but without
any nits (didn't see too many).

PS I have the edit done and just need the email to send it to you.

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hey Jeanne, I've been trying to post reviews of chapter 41 and 42 today, but to no avail!
I'm not sure what the problem is but if it keeps up I'll report it.
Just letting you know I'm still reviewing.

I wonder what's wrong. I haven't posted any reviews today, but I have received some.

Not sure, it keeps saying that the review was posted to the site successfully (or whatever that message always says) but it's not showing up in my portfolio and it's not showing up on the chapter itself.

Marry - I just took a look from my end and they're not there either. Can you post reviews for others? It might be time to tell Sol. I don't know what's wrong, but like I said earlier, I've gotten a bunch of reviews today just fine.

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
I've had this happen to me. Sol had to clear it. I think it's a glitch in the system. Just shoot him an email, Matty.
Now I always go to my home page after posting each one, click the review list and check to see if each one took. I found that if you back out of a review right after posting it, say to go back and print the next chapter or to check something by hitting the last screen arrow, it sometimes takes out the last review.
Anyway, Sol can fix it.

I think Susan is right. The safest thing to do after posting a new review
is to go on to your account page. (And while you're there, see if it was added
to your list of reviews)
Jeanne- I wouldn't worry about those other reviews on Thom's Journey. You
told them in the story basic info that it was an unfinished piece. You will also
see a couple reviewers who hate fantasy, yet they insist on reviewing it and
giving us a bad review. (See what us fantasy folks have to put up with?)

Hi Lee - after a couple of low scores, I got a few 5s in a row, so I'm not worried. I'm still working away and did quite a bit more, but I hestitate to add it right now because I don't want more reviewers telling me they were disappointed in the ending (when it would still not be complete).

Jeanne, I read it last night and I'm lovin' it. In fact you have made me wish I had written something for the project
I will post your review today. I will also read the other reviews and let you know what I think - honestly.

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hi Jeanne (Update on Sandahl Short Story anthology)
I'm having problems sending emails back to folks when they send it thru tNBW's blind
email system.
When someone does that I get an unknown sender@ unknown domain and I can't
just reply. I need the writers actual email. I'll have to mention this to all the folks
so everyone is on the same sheet of music.
The two main things I require from everyone right now (in addition to their story)
is their byline name to put on the story
and an actual email address (not a blind link thru tNBW)

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hey Jeanne, to reply to your reply to my latest review, thanks.
I try to be as honest as possible, and I don't dole out praise as easily as it may seem - only in reviews that warrant it
My tongue has gotten me in trouble a couple times with authors, but I've had more people comment that they appreciate my honesty, so I have no intention of changing the way I review anytime soon.
It's a genuine pleasure to read Dark Angel (or whatever the title becomes), and I'm sure once it's finished and edited it won't be long before I see it in Chapters.
Cheers,
Matty

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hi Jeanne!
Actually, I don't have any problem with Greg being half lizard. It's just that the hand waving at genetic engineering seemed unecessary to me, given that the Dark Angel is a supernatural being, presumably with supernatural powers.
On the appeal...In general, I've found that if you spend enough time watching, observing, interacting with any creature you begin to see beauty in it. (The only exception for me so far has been the cockroach. But even then, I have to respect cockroaches. They have a design that has not been altered for 300 million years - so there's gotta be something good about it.) Reptiles & spiders have such an elegance about them. Especially snakes, with that sinuous beauty, and the kind of patience they have. They are the quietest creatures of the forest, the hardest to find, the easiest to walk right past without ever knowing they are there. The embodiment of tranquility. We get kind of freaked out about them b/c they can be a threat to us (though only if we threaten them first), but there's so little in the natural world that threatens humans anymore -- I find it kind of cool that snakes still can.
And spiders are kind of the same. An incredible design, such grace & elegance when they move. Unbelievable predators - no other predator, in my opinion, is as well built for that function as spiders are. Watching a spider build a web is another exercise in awe & patience. It takes them an incredibly long time to do it. And every thread is so carefully & precisely placed. I just can't help but admire it.
I could go on and on, but hopefully that gives you an idea of what the appeal might be.
Coincidentally, Golfito is a center of diversity for reptiles in Costa Rica, so all my other gripes about misrepresentation of the town & people aside, Greg is probably right at home there. ![]()

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hey Rita, I can sort of see the appeal of snakes, but spiders are just down right scary. They move too fast on all those creepy legs, yuck! Besides, depending on where you live, they can kill you. Actually, so can snakes, that's why I'm not a fan. There aren't many killer snakes or spiders here in Canada. We do have rattle snakes and poisonous spiders are making their way here in our imported produce. Last I heard, we had a few sightings of Brazilian wandering spiders and black widows, yikes! Cockroaches might be disgusting, but at least they can't kill you, lol
I like your remark about Greg being at home in the land of reptiles and I will most certainly take your suggestion under consideration re the necessity for the reptile angle.

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Well, lots of people have spider phobias, so I never hold it against anyone. It's just I don't share the same perspective.
On a marginally related note - In "Uninvited", Helen's captor (who will eventually go by the name of Nathan, though that's not his true name) has - like all of his kind - some limited powers of shapeshifting. He can assume various forms, but he prefers to appear as a human being, in part because he's much more likely to seduce Helen that way, but mostly because he views Homo sapiens as one of the most terrifying creatures the universe has yet produced - far more horrifying than those wimpy spiders & reptiles. So whenever he's in the mood to really scare someone, he shapeshifts into a human. ![]()
