Hello Jeanne!
I had to tell you this; My daughter was in the hospital 2 weeks ago for a kidney infection & I found myself looking around for spirits & such. I also kept & close eye on the nurses!
Happy New Year!

Hi Karen - that's so funny. I'm glad my little story stayed with you enough to make an impact. By the way, did you happen to see any? I'm sure the nurses are fine though, I wouldn't worry about them ![]()
I hope your daughter is okay now. How about you - how are you doing?
Happy New Year to you.

Hey Jeanne,
I'm fine for now. I have several appointments coming up within the month, so we'll see how things are. I've decided not to put my life & writing on hold. What ever happens happens & I'll face it with my eyes wide open. Even though I'm a Pisces, I've decided to turn up my Scorpio and not be afraid or compromise with this. I've always been an optimist so I'm going to look at the bright side instead of retreating into the depression & darkness of this illness.
No, I didnt see any ghosts but my daughter did ask a couple of times what I was looking for! ![]()
Blessings~

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hi, Jeanne!
What do you want to have happen on your street in Golfito?
Street names are generally avoided altogether in Costa Rica. It makes it an [ahem] interesting experience to drive around as a tourist there. In San Jose, there are numbered 'avenidas' and 'calles'. A few of the bigger roads have names.
Since street names aren't used, directions are usually given by landmarks. Like, 100m east and 50m south of the Pizza Hut. Or (one of my favorites), 500m west of the fig tree (note that said fig tree is often no longer there, but all the locals know it used to be...)
Anyway, tell me what you need the street name for and I'll come up with something. ![]()

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hi Rita - it would be the address for where Dane and June are staying. I suppose I could just have them use the name of the place instead of an address. Any good names for little cottage-like places. Not a resort type on the beach, but something in a more natural setting (i.e., in a heavily forested area).
Thanks so much,
Jeanne

Popular names for cabinas in that area:
Brisas del mar (breeze of the seas)
Cabinas [fill in the name of your choice here] for example: Cabinas Marleny, Cabinas Yensi, Cabinas Maria del Mar
Or name it after a tropical bird: Cabinas Lapa Roja (scarlet macaw); Cabinas los Tucanes (toucans)
or after a tree: Cabinas los Higuerones (fig trees); Cabina la Ceiba (kapok tree)
or something "darker": Cabinas Murcielago (bat)
Or more ferocious: Cabinas el Jaguar
I think "cabinas something" might be your best choice. There are lots of little cottage-like places called 'cabinas something-or-other' in Costa Rica.
Hope this is helpful!

Jeanne,
Thank you so much for stopping by authonomy to endorse 'Eolyn'. I haven't done anything with that site for about 3 months, so it was a real surprise to see I had a new comment - and very pleasant surprise to learn it was from you. I really appreciate your support and am so glad you are enjoying 'Eolyn'.
p.s. - check out the link in my signature - it's a song by a Costa Rican group. ![]()

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Hi everyone - I just wanted to share that I'm excited because I've got a rock solid outline now for the last third of my book. Holy cow - I went through two outlines already and kept veering off in other directions. I had to stop writing for a while and go back over what I've already written to put together a really detailed outline and break it down chapter by chapter, because I wasn't sure how to end my book.
I'll tell ya, the next book i write, I will have it extremely well outlined before beginning. I can finally start to write again!

No worries Karen - I'm glad to hear you've been reading. I understand what it's like - I've been reading/reviewing like mad lately and sometimes it gets to be too much. Although I do enjoy it very much.
Hope you're doing fantastically well these days.

Yea! And girl, I gave up on detailed outlines after my second novel, they always change for me. My characters seem to take on a life of their own and I just type and follow. All I can achieve is where I want to start, and end, and what point I want to make. LOL But so glad you are back at it. I thought I was going to have to wait for that next chapter. Weeeeeeeeeeee! I'm on it!

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
Susan - For me, I think there's a happy medium. If there's anything I've learned about writing while working on Dark Angel, it's that I need to have a glimmer of where I'm going during the first part of the book, but I have to KNOW where I'm going in the last part. Things can change (and they usually do), but I think the ending has to be thoroughly thought out to the last detail. It's the hardest to write and all the loose ends have to be tied up. At least that's the way it is for me. We all find our own way and do whatever works for us.
I heard that John Irving will only start a book once he has the last line in place. He starts from the end. And in all the years he's been writing, he's never once changed that last line he began with. And then there's Stephen King who doesn't do detailed outlines - he only has an idea of what he wants to write and lets the story do it's own thing.

Re: Jeanne M. Bannon
I felt the same way you're feeling right now and tried like hell to do a more concise outline before starting my second novel, Born Again. Only problem, it didn't work because in one of the earlier chapters the whole story changed when one of my characters introduced me to Erzsebet Bathory disguised as a minister, a whole new plot, and a new conflict to get me to where I wanted to go. Religious corruption, money, power. I had no idea this was going to happen. And further in the book they came up with another conflict. Dorius having a history with the Blood Countess. I did not see that coming either. So outline number 1, 2, and 3 bit the dust and so on and so on. So like King, I just wing it, but the basic idea of what I'm trying to get across is always there; the names change, how they get there changes too. They just do whatever the hell they decide to do as each scene unfolds. It used to freak me out, now I just sigh, type, and try to keep up. LOL
In Dead Girls Never Shut Up, I didn't know two ghosts were going to show up in the second chapter, no shit! They just did. And I had no idea Sara was going to kill herself; she was supposed to be my gay girl; the one that didn't inherit the gift. My whole idea for the story, penned in my first outline, was to bring to light how being twins, one gay, one not, can effect teen politics in high school. Toni didn't end up the straight chick that gets the gift, either. She turned out to be bi-sexual. But the message is still there. Homosexuality, teens, and the different reactions it produces while coming to grips with who you are.
