Tropical Vacation Short Story Challenge
Hi Writing Members,
Most of us are in the middle of winter so we thought we'd offer a challenge to warm things up a bit. Let’s see if anyone is interested. The rules are that you must write a short story of 3,000 words or less with the words “tropical vacation" mentioned at least 15 times in the story. The title must also have the words “tropical vacation" in it.
Once you post it, come back to this thread and post the title of the story. This will officially enter you into the challenge.
In addition, we’ll offer that top ranked story as of February 28, 2006 a publishing contract for $.03 per word.
That’s it. If there are any questions, please post them here. Have fun.

Re: Tropical Vacation Short Story Challenge
Sol,
Isn't 15 times a bit much?
Anyway, I'm game, even if I do live in a tropical country.
I shall pass this way only once, so if there be any kindness,
Let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way again.
Unswerving perseverance is the key to success.

All right I'll play. Mine is up. It's called: Tropical Vacation Downgraded to Tropical Depression

Oh man, I just noticed February 2006! I had a whole year. Instead of writing it on the first day I could have procrastinated for another 364. Darn!
Jeez, I screwed up again! I just noticed, it is 2006! I just bought reading glasses from the drug store. It's messing up my thought processes. Ignore me until I get used to these stupid glasses. I wasn't drinking, I swear.

Do "tropical" and "vacation" have to be next to each other?
How can you leap into your life
If you never jump at all?

It is fun! That's why I rushed over to give you a HAR!d time. You forgot to mention the teddy bear doesn't eat but I eat it's portion when no one is looking. I'm eating my dog's share of Frito's right now.

Re: Tropical Vacation Short Story Challenge
Alan your story reminded me of when I first worked for the paper. I had to go to the elementary school and take pictures every report card term so we could run the 'Honor Roll' photo's. the football team, the band, anything with a picture. I helped run the web press also and the owner would calculate how many extra copies he would sell according to how many children's pictures were in the paper. He'd call out, run an extra 2000 copies, when we got the web threaded and the press clanking along. It was funny, becasue the paper would sell out every time.

You hit it on the head. I am surprised you didn't do the same thing being a former newspaperman. Let me do this - If I finish first and you second I'll donate the winnings to any charity you wish in your name. Sometimes playing dirty is a win-win situation!

If I win I'm donating to The 'Guinness' Foundation. They have a special 'depletion fund' I contribute to.

I rose to the challenge and threw something together. It's called "The Housewife's Temptation on a Tropical Vacation." -- It's my first attempt at Romance.

Re: Tropical Vacation Short Story Challenge
I actually didn't see this until after I responded to your review! You are too funny! As I said, don't know if the story is REALLY romance, but it is a little steamy, so... for lack of a better place to pigeon hole it. Sorry I made you suffer through it. LOL
