Empire State Building Winner
The winner of the Empire State Building Short Story Contest is...
Felix Urick for the story The Man on the 13th Floor.
The judges enjoyed the story for its prominent use of the Empire State Building, the fluid, fast-paced writing, and the mystery of exactly why Sarah Reisner's leasing deal for the 13th floor of the building fell through.
Please join me in congratulating him! And congratulations to all of the other great stories posted as part of the contest. I hope you had as much fun writing them as we did reading them.

There were so many great stories written for this contest. I would not want to be one who had to pick a winner. The judges made a great choice. Congratulations Felix on winning with an entertaining story well written.

Re: Empire State Building Winner
Wow! I'm shocked. Happy and shocked. Thank you. This is the first time I've ever won a short story contest.
In case anyone is interested, Louis Shane, Jr. was a real person. If you would like to see a picture of the Empire State Craftsmanship Award plaque, which is located in the lobby of the ESB, then just follow the link below.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/suburbanslice/4085330547/
If you take a close look at the plaque, you will see that the sixth name from the bottom is Louis Shane, Jr. and that he was a Marble Setter.
Another character in my story, Oscar Bruno Bach, was also a real person, and his reputation as a metal artisan was tied closely to the ESB. If you'd like to read a little about him, then follow the link.
http://www.oscarbach.org/index.php/abouttheartist
As the link states, "Perhaps his (Bach's) crowning glory is the large inlaid stainless steel mural he fabricated and installed in the lobby of the Empire State Building in 1931."
The germ of the idea for my story came from two pieces of information I uncovered while doing research on the ESB. The first piece of info was that the ESB has a 13th Floor. Most tall buildings usually skip from the 12th Floor to the 14th Floor, so I thought it was cool that the ESB had a 13th Floor. The second piece of information was my accidentally stumbling upon the craftsman plaque and the names of all the craftsmen, which led me to Louis Shane, Jr.
Anyway, thank you for all the well wishes. I thoroughly enjoyed writing the story. And I also enjoyed reading all of the other entries.
Felix
