Re: How is The Strongest Start judged?

emailed you what I know.  It is a great contest and many enter.  I feel it pushes a writer to get to work!  Well, most writers.  I still haven't entered!

A set of judges read and select a certain number to represent each genre.  Then those are read by the second set.  Then taking all into consideration  ... winners are picked.

Hope this helps.  You weren't getting any answers so had to stick my nose in!

I will add that strongest start to me means more than actions etc.. It has to be strong in the sense one almost 'has' to want to read on.  It is the book.. that after scanning a couple of chapters in the aisle of a bookstore; you know you will be leaving with it!

The talent on this site blows me away and why it works is mostly due to those who understand it is a 'workshop' site and take advantage of all the skills offered here by generous writers.  You can't learn like this is a class!  No class can give you all the varied opinions and free!  The minimal cost of membership! Trust me... I can't afford to go to school and the school can't afford to lose teachers due to my being in the class!  I drive em to drink!  They leave teaching!

Anyway.. more than you asked for but I get excited about this site!

Flo

Re: How is The Strongest Start judged?

Thanks Flo!  You made me smile.  I was really just curious about the process.  It confused me when people were saying "I'll read that after the contest".  Yes this is a great site.  Everyone has been so helpful, and it really inspires me to improve.  I must admit, I've done nothing on this site recently.  I'm giving up smoking (17 days today!) and taking a break from the process of query writing etc, so writing in general.  But I do now have a blog, which is a lonely little space, but at least I can write and get stuff out of my head and express my woes about not smoking.  And when I read it back, it's actually quite funny.  I crack myself up smile  Feel free to have a gander, if you're in the mood for poorly phrased, flibberty jibbert writing http://jmdarbyshire.wordpress.com/

Cheers!

Re: How is The Strongest Start judged?

JMD.. Just got back to the site.. almost 9pm... one child still here.  Dear God! I am tooo old for this!

I love humor!  I fill my days with it or wouldn't survive the 'weezers' ... they are children and grandchildren I keep!

I will take a look asap!  Right now have decided to tackle one novel at a time. Getting caught up etc.  Also a couple I have promised to read for over a year!  "Good At Dying" first and dear Lord what a treat!  I think another one I started and never finished was "Full Blown Addictions" ... And.. One of Kydd's!!! It only takes me a couple of free days to catch up as go at it hour by hour by hour!  Works best for me as reading so many novels can be tricky.  For an old lady anyway.

Oh.. yeah!  A few chapters behind on Road of Blood and Slaughter!  I don't even like this type of story and I am so involved!  That my dear takes talent!

Later ...

If I don't get to your work in the next couple of days?   Email me as simply got stampeded by children!

Re: How is The Strongest Start judged?

Hello,

My name is Sherie Lynn, and I'm kind of new to this website. I was wondering when the next contest is going to be for the The Strongest Start Novel Competition.

Also, I was wondering about the posting of your material -- how is it protected here?

Thanks for your answers,

Sherie Lynn
