Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

Just so you know (although it's probably too late) there's a ten year time jump. I may stick another chapter in between later, but that time period wasn't speaking to me so I skipped ahead for now. big_smile

Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

Susan....I'll be back working on UTAT soon. I just finished polishing OWD for my summer critique group. I rewrote chapter 16, Rider Ceremony, and did a new epilogue. Chapters 16-20 didn't change much, just recombined them. I'd like to have you read ch 16 and ch 21 (the epilogue) at least. If you have time, you can read the others for flow. Thanks!

Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

Okay, Susan (and whoever else is interested)
The next chapter of Under the Almond Trees is up. I renumbered the last two since I have decided to add in two additional Eva chapters before these (and two Ellen chapters to keep the pattern consistent). Still, this one is done so I posted it.

In this one, Eva meets her pen pal, Teddy. big_smile

Ann,  I finished On a Wing and a Dare or at least what you posted.  Is that it?  If so there are a lot of loose ends to tie up.  I enjoyed the story quite a bit.  Thanks for sharing it.  I will start your new one soon.

Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

Yep, that's it.  I hope I tied up the major issues, and the nagging loose ends will continue in the next book. I have another one already written (very rough) but I need one more between the two. Taking a break and trying to get this one published first. smile

You didn't leave a review for chapter 20 or 21. Did you really finish it?

I'd like to know what loose ends you think are left...want to make sure I didn't leave any that I wanted to fix!

Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

Today has been a very exciting day for me. Got an email from Briona Glen Publishing.....are you ready?
They want to publish On A Wing and a Dare!

In my query (that you all helped me with) I mentioned that fans of Anne McCaffrey and Robin McKinley would like my book. The editor said they were two of her favorite authors and she thinks I'm better than both of them. yikes  She wants 'at least' a trilogy.  I have some items to work on for rewrites, most of which is relatively minor.  Right now I'm floating. I'll ask for help with the two major issues tomorrow from my TNBW fans!

I could NOT have polished this novel without the help of this forum. Thank you, my friends!

Congrats Ann!!  I can't believe how many of you are getting published.  I can believe it having read most of you now that I think of it.  I hope you do write a trilogy, would love to know what happens next in High Meadow.

Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

Look at this killer idea for making the whole poison/sickness thing stronger. Got it from a friend who works with water supplies.

Perhaps the poison comes from the extract of the deadly nimberry bush which everybody knows contains a deadly toxin. Only the toxin doesn't come from the nimberries themselves. There are these little red worms that lay their eggs in the nimberries. And when the larvae hatch, they excrete toxin into the nimberries, protecting their fellow larvae from being eaten by animals who will die if they chomp down a nimberry (and the little red worms' brothers and sisters.) But now horses are being poisoned with nimberry extract, and the berry extract has passed through the horses GI tract complete with a few worms and somehow reached the well at one of the barns. There's enough decomposed biomaterial in the soil around the well to feed the little worms who are now laying eggs in the water supply. You have these microscopic worms in the water supply who once inside your GI tract secrete an enterotoxin similar to cholera and are life threatening to any creature that drinks the water from this well.

I mean red worms secreting toxin into berries? Is that super cool for YA or WHAT?  Rita, I know this will tickle your scientific side...

Thanks everyone!

Starting my rewrites. A new chapter one is up. Is it more compelling? more empathetic toward Emma? I left the old one up for comparison.

Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

lol Lee!  I've got the new version up through chapter 18. Those who want to skim for the new chapters about the nimberries, I put in the chapter summary which ones those are. Chapter 18 is newly republished--it reveals the new culprit behing the poisoning. I'd appreciate some look-sees, thanks!

Re: Ann Walters feedback sticky

News flash! I am starting to work on the sequel to On a Wing and a Dare. A very rough first draft of chapter one is posted under the working title: In the Winds of Danger.

What do you think? The title echoes the first one, but is it too close?
Other title possiblities:
Dark Beneath My Wings
Hidden Beneath My Wings
