#25 Sanaz's Story a novel

While Sanaz lies in a D.C. hospital after her husband Meher’s attempted murder-suicide, Sanaz reassesses her life from the moment she meets him until the time she is finally able to forgive him. In Sanaz’s Story we enter the paradoxical world of a young girl in pre-revolutionary Iran, where mini-skirted women with college degrees face arranged marriages. Her sexual curiosity leads her to break with societal taboos and family tradition, resulting in marriage to an abusive man. With his death, Sanaz comes of age again.

Comedic fantasy:
'How I Became a Vampire' (109,000 words)

Susan lived her life cloaked in fantasy with dreams of becoming immortal.  She was white-knuckling it through her fifties with a desperation that gave the stockholders of companies manufacturing CoverGirl, Max Factor, Maybelline, and Revlon something to smile about.

After an incident in a public restroom, and her becoming the real thing, she finds herself surrounded by the very vain women in her family, all wanting a piece of the action.

Follow the Stech family's fanged escapades as they use fiction to guide them in zany romp, full of immortals hell bent on their destruction.

#30 Priscilla the Great

Have you ever gotten stuck in the bathroom during the most important party of the year…in the most popular girl’s house…with the cutest boy on the planet standing right outside? Well did you then start accidently setting things on fire…with your fingers? If you think your life stinks, you ain’t got nothing on me.
I’m Priscilla Maxine Sumner and all I want is to be a normal seventh grader. But with an older brother annoyingly obsessed with Christina Aguilera, mischievous baby twin brothers who could scare the sin off of Satan, and parents more puzzling than a Rubik’s cube in the Bermuda triangle, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. I just hope someone will be able to explain to me why I’ve suddenly become the hottest girl in River’s Bend, PA.

Hokey-Dinah! I've been waiting to say the following for a long time...

#31: I just finished the final chapter of The Language of Thunder. Woohoo! Here's the synopsis:

Sam Tabor is a bright child with a promising future, but when her alcoholic mother gets a new boyfriend, her world starts to fall apart piece by piece. Sam hits the streets and stumbles into the Mercury Diner, where she’s told by a kind waitress to seek out a man by the name of Bruno, who can be found in the Jungle. After years in the Jungle, Bruno’s business partner calls in a debt. Sam’s world crumbles again, but a man with multiple identities intercedes on her behalf, believing the young girl will be safeguarded in a maximum security prison. Out of jail, Sam is offered a safe place to live, but is she really freed from her past and danger?

This is a young adult novel. It has been edited and reposted once already. I'll be starting round two of edits in March. I always appreciate people's suggestions for improvement.

Take care,

#34  The Bum Magnet    (Contemporary Women's Fiction - Romantic Comedy)

For Charisse Tyson, getting the stately, 3-story colonial, the 7-Series BMW, and her dream job was easy; explaining the hopeless trail of romantic road kill obstructing her expressway to love was the hard part. She's beautiful, intelligent, and down-to-earth but attracts more devious, philandering men than Capitol Hill. An article she reads during a New Year's meltdown as her 40th birthday looms motivates her to unearth the complex, and often comical, roots of her biggest romantic fiascos. Her hapless voyage of self-discovery, in which she vows to swear off men, is sidetracked by an inconveniently irresitable beau, to persistent ex-flames, and an FBI agent with life-altering secrets that threaten to turn her world topsy-turvy. Charisse's love life takes a series of unpredictable turns that not even she could imagine. But will she ever meet Mr. Right?

#35 I Know Everything But I Forget Some Things Sometimes

Did Noah’s Ark Cause Global Warming? What are the Psychological Effects of Playground Tag on Preteens?  I KNOW EVERYTHING BUT I FORGET SOME THINGS SOMETIMES will take you on a satirical journey exploring the absurdities of everyday life.

Welcome to Wiggy's colorful and demented view of life. Parenthood, pets, religion and travel…nothing is sacred.  Delve into the centuries-old mystery that is the depths of a woman’s handbag.  Relish the cerebral misfirings as you are shown the Darwinistic perils of the daily commute and a workday spent alongside people who have no business operating dangerous machinery.

I KNOW EVERYTHING irresponsibly demystifies the feminine half of the human race based upon decades of personal observation and misunderstanding.  Learn why “Cute is a Four Letter Word"  and how to master secret relationship-saving techniques such as “Mindreading"  and “Muteness."

Not since Shakespeare has the English language been so mangled.  If laughter is the best medicine, this book is the suppository.

#37 Cassie (Any suggestions on a better title would be appreciated)

Cassie is an air traffic controller working at SeaTac airport. One night while she is working she stops an aircraft from departing when she notices something unusual. She ends up averting a potential disaster. The pilot and first officer come up to meet her and thank her. She and the pilot become involved. Cassie doesn't have a lot of self esteem after her marriage and divorce and John has to work hard to convince her that they can make things work. I am currently rewriting the novel in first person. I have rewritten the first four chapters but all of the chapters are up.

All three are complete:

The Grateful Undead: They're so Vein

http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/library … read/27409

Susan, white-knuckling it through her fifties with a desperation that gives the stockholders of  CoverGirl, Max Factor, and Maybelline something to smile about, encounters a rambunctious child and his mother in a public bathroom.

What first appeared to be a domestic squabble between mother and son quickly turns rancid when the little tyke sinks his teeth into Susan's neck and she wakes up in the back seat of her car, newly acquired fangs hanging out, and her sister JoAnn's beloved French poodle, Tootles, in her lap.

With a thirst for blood, locked in her walk-in freezer at home, Susan looks thirty years younger.   JoAnn stands guard at the door, clutching a pair of sharpened tent stakes and a copy of Diary of a Vampire, waiting for the rest of the clan to arrive, a family of six vain woman ranging in age from thirty-eight to eighty-three.

A domino effect quickly ensues.

The Grateful Undead: Born Again

http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/library … read/31224

A sequel to They're so Vein:  The team once again finds themselves up to their asses in immortal animals, one being a vamp-gator, and human bodies start showing up all over the place.  But it doesn't seem to be the work of the immortal animals.

Susan and Christopher soon find out that the infamous 'Blood Countess', Erzsebet Bathory, born in the 1500's, is responsible.  Long thought dead, she's back, she's angry, and she's killing again.

Waxing and Waning

http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/library … read/31132

Paddy, not Patty, but short for Patricia, is an Eighty-three year old woman that lives in her own world, generated by a wandering imagination, and seems quite harmless to those around her.  But Paddy is waxing and waning, and Paddy is not at all who she appears to be.  Paddy is murdering people, and no one seems to notice.

#41 Journeys, Two-up. (51,000 words)

Probably some revisions to make in the last couple chapters, but otherwise it's complete.

This story describes two journeys I made in the last half of 2008: a 9,000-mile motorcycle trek across the United States followed by a three-week tour of ancient Egypt and Jordan. It is a travelogue of small adventures, fascinating people, and majestic sights encountered in two venues worlds apart. They are of the same cloth: a single pilgrimage taken in an attempt to cope with the death of my wife after her long battle with cancer. Thus, this book is also a memoir of another, very personal journey.

#42  Wings, Waves, and Wisteria

This multiple POV fantasy illustrates the power of balancing life's responsibilities with life's pleasures.  Sabrielle, 15, and Sabarain, 17, move to High Meadow with their parents, Jol and Carren.  Jol's dream of living in High Meadow soon loses its luster as he watches his loved ones drift away from him.  Follow this family as each member finds their own path and relationships slip, dreams fade, and a marriage begins to fail.  The mysteries and wonders of High Meadow diminish under the high cost of living there.  Unpunished killings, kidnapping, new love, winged horses, and sacrifice are just  a few of the elements that draw in Wings, Waves, and Wisteria readers.

It's billed as YA fantasy, but the only fantasy element is the flying horses, and I think there's enough going on that adults will enjoy it as well.  Let me know!

Re: NOW COUNTING COMPLETED NOVELS ON SITE. ADD YOURS HERE!

I have three novels on the site that are complete:

1. "A Common Virtue" - set during the Vietnam war, the story traces the life of a young Marine during the chaos of a bitter war - it provides military action, romance, coming of age, and an inside look at the complexities of the  1968 Tet Offensive - written from actual experience.

2. "The Eagles - The Wolf of Gaul" - Set in 58BC, amidst Caesar's conquest of Gaul, two soldiers, one, a patrician and the son of Romes most tyrannical dictator and the other a plebeian and former member of the Roman mob - go behind the lines to save Caesar from destruction

3. "White Swan" - as a Vietnam vet, I got tired of hearing how we lost the war - so I wrote a story in which we win it - this is a novel of conflict, both on the political arena and the battlefield - it attempts to show that wars can be won by stealth and intelligence instead of violence - this includes the violence of battle, but strategy and cunning are the driving engines.

I hope you will read and enjoy - I'd love to receive your feedback.
Aloha,
JHawk
